Rep. Louie Gohmert dismissed the idea of former Vice President Joe Biden’s son being called in as a witness before Congress as just a “sideshow.”
Speaking on Fox News Channel’s “The Story” Friday, the House Judiciary Committee member told Ed Henry that there were three important witnesses who should be called to testify before Congress in the ongoing effort by Democrats to impeach President Trump.

But Hunter Biden was not one of them, Gohmert noted, since he was not actually in a government position at the time in question.
With the House Judiciary Committee set to run the next phase of the impeachment inquiry, Chairman Jerrold Nadler issued a deadline to the president and Republicans who wish to call witnesses. Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz told Fox News that Hunter Biden would be a “top witness” for Republicans but Gohmert seemed to disagree.
The Texas Republican told Henry that former National Security Council employees Abigail Grace and Sean Misko as well as the whistleblower whose complaint about Trump’s July phone call with the Ukrainian president set off the impeachment inquiry, should be called as witnesses.
Henry then asked the congressman about Biden testifying.
“That’s more of a sideshow,” he replied. “Because the real corruption is not with Hunter Biden. He wasn’t in a position of — a government position. The question is Joe Biden.”
“And they’re saying, oh, gee, this is bribery,” he added. “That means information has to be considered as monetary, and the court — Supreme Court has made clear that’s not a political gift. But the real trick is if information is a bribe, then, all of that information the Hillary campaign got from Ukraine — from the Ukrainians, that makes them guilty of bribery.”
Gohmert scoffed earlier in the segment over Nadler’s deadline, giving Trump a week to mount a defense.
“He needs to be advised of what the charges are. There are no charges,” he laughed. “There’s no collusion and, as we know, it is not obstruction of justice when you know you’re innocent and you’re trying to get the truth out about your innocence.”
Looking ahead, Gohmert thought House Speaker Nancy Pelosi would not want Democrats moving forward with a vote to impeach the president.
“Say what you will about Nancy Pelosi — she’s not politically stupid,” the Texas lawmaker said. “She knows if we take this vote, she’s going to get the votes she needs — she always does. Then it goes to the Senate, they’re not going to remove him and then Pelosi will have helped reelect Donald Trump.”
“I can’t believe she would want to do that but her left wing may push her into it anyway,” he added.
