President Trump’s legal team fired off a letter to CNN citing its “biased reporting,” and informing the network of its intent to file legal action.
“Your actions are in violation of the Lanham Act, among other applicable laws, by constituting misrepresentations to the public, to your advertisers, and others,” Trump attorney Charles J. Harder wrote in a four-page letter to CNN, the network’s president Jeff Zucker, and Executive Vice President David Vigilante.

The letter noted the intention to sue CNN for “a substantial payment of damages,” citing the network’s anti-Trump bias and referring to recently released Project Veritas videos revealing CNN staffers talking about the slant in reporting and a CNN media coordinator saying Zucker has a “personal vendetta” against the president.
Following the release of the videos this week, Trump suggested the possibility of filing a lawsuit due to Zucker’s directive for staff to focus solely on impeachment in their reporting.

Harder noted in his letter from Wednesday that the videos “are merely the tip of the iceberg of the evidence my clients have accumulated over recent years.”
“Never in the history of this country has a President been the subject of such a sustained barrage of unfair, unfounded, unethical and unlawful attacks by so-called ‘mainstream’ news, as the current situation,” the lawyer added.

The network was accused of violating its own mission and Code of Ethics as well as the Lanham Act, which governs trademarks.
CNN unfairly covers Trump while by billing itself as “journalists,” “truth seekers” and “united by a mission to inform, engage and empower the world” the letter claimed, noting that the network also violated the Society for Professional Journalists’ Code of Ethics.

“Accordingly, my clients intend to file legal action against you, to seek compensatory damages, treble damages, punitive damages, injunctive relief, reimbursement of legal costs, and all other available legal and equitable remedies, to the maximum extent permitted by law,” the letter stated.
“Please contact the undersigned to discuss an appropriate resolution of this matter, which would include a substantial payment of damages, as well as all other appropriate measures that are necessary to fully address the magnitude of the situation,” Harder wrote.
“Your own employees appear to state that CNN is focused on trying to ‘take down President Trump,’ driven by a ‘personal vendetta’ that Mr. Zucker purportedly has against him, rather than reporting the news in an objective manner.”

CNN dismissed the “PR stunt” by the Trump campaign.
“This is nothing more than a desperate PR stunt and doesn’t merit a response,” Matt Dornic, a spokesman for CNN, said in a statement.
