Trump’s Twitter smackdown: ‘Sleepy Eyes Chuck Todd,’ praises Bob Woodward

President Donald Trump clearly had his eye on the Sunday talk shows and it was equally clear that he wasn’t too pleased with the various network personalities, to include NBC anchor “Sleepy Eyes Chuck Todd.”

The “Meet the Press” host had Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wisc., on as a guest Sunday and got into a heated exchange with the lawmaker that left Todd seething.

The segment began with Todd inquiring about a Wall Street Journal interview where Johnson implied that the U.S. ambassador to the European Union said that President Trump was withholding military aid to Ukraine seeking a commitment to investigate certain matters — the angle being an attempt to show that quid pro quid was present in the Ukrainian controversy.

But Johnson was more than up for the task, as BizPac Review reported, shutting Todd down as he explained that he has never seen an administration “sabotaged” like Trump’s administration has been and that the president’s efforts with Ukraine was about election meddling in the 2016 election, not digging dirt on potential 2020 rivals. Johnson also tore into the media for its role in the Democratic Party’s impeachment frenzy.

It’s fair to say Todd was livid that the Republican lawmaker would not go down the path he intended and Trump was all over that.

“Sleepy Eyes Chuck Todd of ‘Meet the Press’ had a total meltdown in his interview with highly reaspected Senator @RonJohnsonWI. Seems that a not very bright Chuck just wasn’t getting the answers he was looking for in order to make me look as bad as possible. I did NOTHING wrong!” the president tweeted.

But Todd can rest assured that he wasn’t the only Sunday talk show host to catch the president’s ire.

Over at rival network CBS, Trump ripped “Face the Nation” host Margaret Brennan, calling her a “no name host(ess)” in a tweet that actually praised Bob Woodward, the longtime Washington Post reporter of Watergate fame.

The president demeaned the show by calling it “Deface the Nation,” and had unkind words for New York Times reporter Peter Baker, who was lumped in with Brennan.

“Good job, I must say, by Bob Woodward on “Deface the Nation.” The CBS no name host(ess), and other guest, Peter Baker of The Failing New York Times, were totally biased, boring and wrong (as usual), but Woodward was cool, calm and interesting. Thank you Bob!” Trump tweeted.

Given today’s standard, Woodward presented somewhat of a voice of reason on the show, noting that Trump currently has enough Republican senators standing by him to avoid being removed from office. Woodward also warned that Democrats “need to really be careful” in their impeachment efforts — in effect saying if they fall short and “Trump is still out there,” the result may be “a bloody 2020.”

More from the segment can be seen below:

President Trump also offered commentary on a “60 Minutes” segment that focused on “the pressure farmers are feeling” as a result of the president’s trade policies.

“[60 Minutes] “forgot” to report that we are helping the great farmers of the USA to the tune of 28 Billion Dollars, for the last two years, paid for out of Tariffs paid to the United States by China for targeting the farmer. They devalued their currency, therefore paying the cost!” he tweeted.
