Dem House Intel member: If Trump wants to act like a gangster, we’ll treat him like one

A Democratic member of the House Intelligence Committee suggested treating President Donald Trump like a “gangster” in light of the whistleblower controversy.

Rep. André Carson bluntly referred to the President of the United States as a “tyrant” and someone acting like a “mob figure” during a CNN interview on Monday.

The Indiana Democrat blasted Trump for his comments about finding out the identity of the whistleblower who filed a complaint about the president’s call with the leader of Ukraine in July, which has now sparked a firestorm and an impeachment inquiry by Democrats.

“Well, we’re going to do whatever we can to make sure that the identity of the whistleblower is protected,” Carson told CNN anchor Poppy Harlow on “OutFront.”

The president told reporters on Monday that the White House was “trying to find out about a whistleblower.”

“We have a whistleblower who reports things that were incorrect as you know,” Trump said. “The statement I made to the president of Ukraine, a good man, nice man, was perfect. It was perfect. But the whistleblower reported a totally different statement like the statement was not even made.”

“I would hope that this president does not act in a way that is reminiscent of a mob figure. If he sees himself as such, he will be dealt with as such,” Carson told CNN’s Harlow.

“What does that mean?” she asked.

“If he wants to be a gangster then we’re going to have to uphold the law and treat him like a gangster,” Carson declared. “He’s already shown that he’s a tyrant.”

The president has gone on the offensive in defending himself as Democrats have whipped themselves into an impeachment frenzy over the phone call with the Ukrainian president. Trump has denounced the “witch hunt” and questioned whether House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff should be arrested for treason” after his “parody” account of the call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during last week’s House hearing.

Carson, a frequent critic of he president and a supporter of impeachment, said he and his Democratic colleagues in Congress have been on a mission to make sure Trump “doesn’t act like a gangster.”

“We’re doing what we’re doing,” he said.

“Investigating, issuing more subpoenas. Making sure he doesn’t act like a gangster and use the seat of the presidency to continue to intimidate foreign leaders, to blackmail foreign leaders,” the Democrat proclaimed.

“To continue to pollute all the agencies and create this toxic work environment where people are afraid to come forward with whistle-blower complaints and members of the cabinet administration as well are afraid to even challenge the president,” he added. “That’s a mob mentality and those are certainly traits of a tyrant.”
