‘Unbiased’ Jake Tapper: Unlike Nixon, Trump ‘has Fox News … an army of trolls’

CNN’s Jake Tapper and his guests on Friday took some weak, empty swipes at conservatives as they tried to tie President Trump to the impeachment of Richard Nixon all those years ago.

“President Trump has something that Nixon did not have,” Tapper declared. “He has Fox News. He has an army of trolls. He has websites that will defend anything he says or does, and that could very well come into play. They are already coming to his defense.”

Tapper’s CNN panel spouted the latest left-wing damage-control points as they all pedaled faster and faster, trying to put a positive spin on Democrats’ efforts to pursue impeachment of the president, or failing that, to project their own party’s wide-ranging guilt upon the president in order to defeat him in 2020.

To be clear, the real story that isn’t covered by the likes of CNN is that the whole “war on Trump” strategy is a losing effort that is quickly failing, and in the case of Ukraine, it is being turned back around on former 2020 Dem candidate Joe Biden.

CNN contributor Sabrina Siddiqui followed Tapper’s comments: “You already see the president and his allies taking a page from the Russia playbook where they’re trying to frame this as another witch hunt. You see some of them pushing conspiracy theories and trying to refocus the attention on Joe Biden even though there is no evidence to suggest wrongdoing on the part of former Vice President Biden.”

No evidence? Is it possible that maybe the CNN contributors’ news sources are strictly regulated?

By now most of the world has seen the tape in which Biden himself boasted of his success in strong-arming Ukraine while he was in office into firing the prosecutor who was leading the investigation of corruption at Burisma Holdings, which involved his son Hunter Biden.

Back to the talking points …

“I think that that’s the key here for the president, is whether or not he’s able to once again try and frame this in sharply partisan terms,” ” Siddiqui continued. “And it will be very important for Democrats in their messaging to not focus so much on impeachment but I think to continue and put this under this umbrella of corruption, which is the way that they’ve tried to frame their message on the campaign trail. I had a Democratic strategist tell me that Democrats shouldn’t be celebrating impeachment, they should make the case to the public that it’s actually a tragedy to impeach an American president but this is the responsibility that they hold as the oversight branch of the U.S. government.”

Dana Bash eagerly referenced Nixon again.

“Can I just add one thing to the many differences politically between then and now, Nixon and now? President Trump is in the middle of a re-election campaign right now,” she said. “Even for Bill Clinton, he’d already won a second term.

“His political apparatus had been winding down,” Bash pointed out about Nixon’s campaign organization, such as it was in late 1973. “President Trump’s is winding up and they have been quietly building a massive war chest along with the RNC in order to get him to win re-election. There’s no better way to spend that money from their perspective now to get him to win re-election than to use that money to hit back at his opponents on impeachment.”
