Chaffetz questions wisdom behind disgraced Andrew McCabe headlining Dem fundraiser

Former U.S. Rep. Jason Chaffetz slammed disgraced FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe for his plans to headline a Democratic fundraiser.

The former chair of the House Oversight Committee called out McCabe’s “terribly tone-deaf” plan to appear in an upcoming banquet for Democrats in Lancaster County, as he spoke on “The Ingraham Angle” Wednesday.

“The fundraiser, just in case you want to get your ticket,” host Laura Ingraham joked, has tickets available for $80 – $160 per person, with “more expensive Speakers’ Circle” tickets that come with “access to a private reception.”

“So if you want to be lied to to your face, you can go to the President’s Circle event,” she laughed, noting the hypocrisy of McCabe’s insistence that he is “not political” while headlining the Democrat event.

“This is so terribly tone-deaf,” Chaffetz responded.

“He’s on the receiving end of one of the most scathing IG reports there’s ever been,” Chaffetz said.

“There’s at least two more IG reports coming out. We know that Mr. Durham, the U.S. attorney, is looking into these details,” he added, referring to Connecticut federal prosecutor John Durham leading the Justice Department investigation into the origins of the Russia investigation.

“He accomplished something that almost no other federal employee did — and that is, he got fired,” Chaffetz said of McCabe who was fired by then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions in 2018 for lying to investigators on the probe of Hillary Clinton’s email server.

“He got fired, not because Donald Trump or some Republican congressman wanted him to, [but] because his peers looked at his actions…a career professional recommended his firing because he was lying, he was less than candid when being interviewed by federal investigators,” Chaffetz said.

Among other topics, McCabe plans to discuss “Russian meddling in the 2016 election,” and his own “one-on-one interactions with Donald Trump” during the banquet, according to the Lancaster County Democratic Committee’s website, which noted that Chairwoman JoAnn Hentz and other members held a conference call with the fired bureaucrat recently.

“Lest anyone thinks this will be a gloomy take on things, Mr. McCabe says he is sure there are brighter days ahead and will talk about why he feels this way,” the website declared of the event.

McCabe, who is now working as a CNN contributor, has been vocally critical of the president and has called for his impeachment as well as authored a book titled, “The Threat: How the FBI Protects America in the Age of Terror and Trump.”

His banquet appearance is scheduled for later this month even as federal prosecutors are deciding whether to indict him.

“The mask is really off on McCabe, is it not now?” Ingraham asked her other guest Wednesday, former U.S. Attorney Joe DiGenova.

“Absolutely. He and Comey have done irreversible damage to the FBI as an institution,” he replied, referring to the fired FBI Director. “But this is not surprising. This is a seamless transition from the private, partisan political activities he conducted with Comey and others…now he’s just public with his Democratic partisan politics.”

DiGenova not only characterized McCabe as a “disgrace” to the FBI, he also saw him – along with others who surrounded Comey – as “weird.”

“He’s kind of a pajama boy, as you watch him. There’s something that’s weakly masculine about him. He’s a little strange,” he told Ingraham. “that’s the kind of people, by the way, Comey surrounded himself with. You look at them, they’re all diminutive, they’re weird, they’re skinny…they’re all strange.”
