At least he didn’t play the race card! Cummings fires back at Trump, and it’s unexpected

Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) has responded to President Donald Trump’s Twitter attacks, and his reaction is surprisingly tame compared to others from leftists.

While folks like Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) have played the race card, Cummings stayed away from that area.

“Mr. President, I go home to my district daily. Each morning, I wake up, and I go and fight for my neighbors. It is my constitutional duty to conduct oversight of the Executive Branch. But, it is my moral duty to fight for my constituents,” Cummings tweeted in response to the president.

The congressman then went on to talk about prescription drug prices and his interest in teaming up with the president to lower costs.

“Just yesterday, I held a hearing on the skyrocketing prices of prescription drugs and the financial hardships that families across the nation, and in Baltimore, are facing,” he tweeted. “Mr. President, we can address this together. Two years ago, I went to the White House to ask you to endorse my bill to let the government negotiate directly for lower drug prices.”

Cummings seemed to be suggesting that Trump lied to him about supporting lower prescription drug costs, especially with his late tweet.

The congressman finished up his tweets by writing, “You told me then that you supported the legislation and that you would work with me to make it happen. I took you at your word.”

Cummings may be taking the high road now, but what seems to have been forgotten about by many in this situation is what exactly motivated Trump’s original Cummings tweets. While leftists would love to believe it has something to do with race, it has more to do with Cummings’ recent behavior.

“Rep. Elijah Cummings has been a brutal bully, shouting and screaming at the great men & women of Border Patrol about conditions at the Southern Border, when actually his Baltimore district is FAR WORSE and more dangerous,” the president tweeted about Cummings on Saturday morning.

He continued, “His district is considered the Worst in the USA as proven last week during a Congressional tour, the Border is clean, efficient & well run, just very crowded. Cumming[s’] District is a disgusting, rat and rodent-infested mess. If he spent more time in Baltimore, maybe he could clean up this very dangerous & filthy mess.”

The president added, “Why is so much money sent to the Elijah Cummings district when it is considered the worst run and most dangerous anywhere in the United States. No human being would want to live there. Where is all this money going? How much is stolen? Investigate this corrupt mess immediately!”

Trump’s tweets followed Cummings putting on a ridiculous show while recently questioning acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan during a House hearing. Cummings went after McAleenan and compared migrant detention facility conditions to “government-sponsored child abuse.”

“You feel like you’re doing a great job, right?” Cummings asked of McAleenan. “What does that mean? What does that mean? When a child is sitting in their own feces, can’t take a shower?”

He added, “Come on man. What’s that about? None of us would have our children in that position. They are human beings.”

On top of this nonsense, Cummings is working to subpoena White House documents related to aides allegedly using private emails to conduct official business.

While the left pretends that the world is on fire because of tweets sent out by Trump, the president is simply pointing out that Cummings is yet another lawmaker putting on a show for cameras and avoiding dealing with the real issues that his job demands he deals with.
