Former acting head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Thomas Homan didn’t have many good things to say about Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) following their clash in a congressional hearing focused on migrant detention center conditions.

“[Connolly] threw out dirt and wouldn’t let me respond. This is about political theater. He ran out of there like a little girl. He’s a coward. He didn’t want to hear my response because this was all political theater,” Homan said in an appearance on Fox Business’ “Lou Dobbs Tonight” on Friday.

Homan added, “This is about resisting this president. This about open borders. They don’t want to hear the truth.”

Speaking with Fox News commentator Gregg Jarrett about the various disagreements in the hearing, Jarrett said the treatment of Homan was “nothing short of appalling.”

Homan also went after Congress for failing to properly fund migrant detention centers. With proper funds, he argued, many of the issues being brought up could be solved.

The ex-ICE chief argued that none of the issues brought up in Friday’s hearing would exist if Congress would “have done their jobs and closed the loopholes that we’ve been asking them to close for two years.”

Homan and Connolly clashed on Friday when Connolly began fuming about alleged mistreatment of illegal immigrants at migrant detention centers, we well as the separation of families who attempt to cross the border illegally.

“I never thought as a member of Congress, as an American, I would hear the testimony I heard today,” Connolly said when he got his chance behind a microphone.

The Virginia Democrat continued, “I’ve sat here and listened to horror stories. I thought it was fiction … children without soap, children in filth. The equivocation, the enabling, the rationalization is inexcusable.”

Despite the fact that Connolly was questioning acting Homeland Security Inspector General Jennifer Costello, Homan interrupted the congressman when he began talking about “human care.” Homan interjected to say he was “extremely frustrated.”

“I’m not calling on you, sir!” Connolly yelled at Homan.

“Of course not,” Homan shot back. “This isn’t about transparency —”

“You’re not at the border!” Connolly shouted. “You’re not at the border right now. You’re in a hearing room. It’s my time!”

Connolly was not the only member of Congress that Homan verbally tussled with on Friday. Homan also shut down Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) when she questioned the act of family separation among illegal immigrants.

“If I get arrested for DUI [driving under the influence] and I have a young child in the car, I will be separated [from that child],” Homan explained in defense of family separation policies. “When I was a police officer in New York and I arrested a father for domestic violence, I separated that father from his family.”

“Mr. Homan, with all due respect, legal [asylum seekers] are not charged with any crime,” Ocasio-Cortez shot back.

Homan replied that being in the country illegally is a violation of the law.

Ocasio-Cortez responded, “Seeking asylum is legal.”

“If you want to seek asylum, you through the port of entry and do it the legal way,” Homan said.

He added, “The attorney general of the United States has made that clear.”

Homan also at one point brought the members of Congress back down to Earth when he laid the blame of any unsatisfactory migrant detention center conditions on them.

“If you don’t like this, do your job. Fix it,” he said.
