The gang that can’t shoot straight was at it again … yes, those zany Democrats again shot themselves in the foot by tweeting out an image of kids locked in cages to promote a hearing in the House on Wednesday that they called, “Kids in Cages: Inhumane Treatment at the Border.” But the promo tweet went far astray, as it was soon pointed out that the image was from 2014 … and the Dems were reminded that someone other than Donald Trump was in the White House at that time.
After Republicans brought to their attention the irony of their post, Democrats on the House Oversight Committee deleted the tweet which read: “Last week, members of our committee visited a detention center at the southern border and discovered grotesque treatment of children. This week, we are examining the inhumane treatment of the children in these detention centers.”
In fact, Republican committee members found that a July 2 tweet sent out by Democrats promoting the House hearing also included a 2014 cage image that they had deleted. Democrats on that panel include Chairman Jamie Raskin, Rep. Ayanna Pressley, and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Trump was not about to let that misfire go by unnoticed. Thursday morning he wrote: “Democrats had to quickly take down a tweet called ‘Kids In Cages, Inhumane Treatment at the Border,’ because the horrible picture used was from the Obama years. Very embarrassing!”

Trump supporters had called out the mistake on Tuesday …

This is not an isolated incident, as the Dems and their faithful have mistakenly used Obama-era cage imagery to try to paint President Trump with unprecedented acts worthy of outrage, though of course once the images are discovered to have been pre-Trump, they are deleted and the SJWs move on quietly.
Viral images used deceptively a few weeks ago is one example. An AP fact check of that episode found: “The photos, taken by The Associated Press, were from 2014, during the Obama administration, but were presented by liberal activists as if they showed the effects of Trump’s immigration policy now. Villaraigosa, Favreau and some others deleted their tweets when the mistake was pointed out.”
Following that leftist gaffe, President Trump tweeted: “Democrats mistakenly tweet 2014 pictures from Obama’s term showing children from the Border in steel cages. They thought it was recent pictures in order to make us look bad, but backfires.”
The fact that the overcrowded detention centers are at the center of a crisis at the border and that conditions are not ideal are not in question. However, Democrats seem more intent on affixing blame and using the crisis for political capital rather than working to solve the issues that are causing the crisis.
Republicans chafe at the Dems’ claims that the crisis is a new issue brought on by the Trump administration.
In June, President Trump signed a funding bill allotting $5 billion to address the overcrowding and under-resourced facilities that are straining to keep up with the flow of migrants.
