Top US Women’s Soccer players toss American flag in grass after victory, Trump takes higher ground

The U.S. Women’s Soccer team defeated the Netherlands on Sunday 2-0 to become World Cup champions. The celebration seemed to prove that for many, the embrace of this team has much to do with the contempt for America by some players.

That and an unhealthy obsession with hating President Donald Trump.

Radical lesbian player Megan Rapinoe elevated herself as the face of that contempt and it was only fitting that she was involved in a troubling scene where a celebrating player discards the American flag by throwing it to the ground.

That player, Allie Long, is grasping the American flag in one hand, hanging to her side low enough for the flag to drag in the grass. Rapinoe approached and motioned for Long to get rid of the flag so they can do a group pose holding the World Cup trophy, along with a third player. Long responds by dropping the flag on the ground between her legs as the three players mug for the camera.

Excitement aside, it was a disrespectful move —  to her credit, another player quickly swooped in to pick the flag up off the grass.

Despite Rapinoe protesting the national anthem by taking a knee, an act she called a “good ‘F you’” to President Trump, and declaring that she would not be “going to the f–king White House” if the team won the championship, a play backed by teammate Ali Krieger, the president and first lady responded with class Sunday to their victory.

“Congratulations to the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team on winning the World Cup! Great and exciting play. America is proud of you all!” the president tweeted.

“Congratulations to 2019 Women’s World Cup Champions @TeamUSA! ⚽️??,” read the tweet from the first lady’s official Twitter account.

To be clear about Rapinoe’s politics, she was only too happy to accept an invite from radical socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., to tour Capitol Hill.

Equally clear was that toxic hatred of Trump was a driving factor for many of those following the team.

This was seen on Fox News when the network did a live shot of a sports bar in Lyon, France, where Americans in the city were watching the game.

Following the win, correspondent Greg Palkot was reporting on the reaction when the crowd behind him began chanting, “F–k Trump!”

Live.

By the way, the player who swept in to rescue the American flag was identified as Kelley O’Hara and social media showed its appreciation for the respect she showed Old Glory.

With the women’s team winning back-to-back World Cup championships, Rapinoe was certainly feeling her oats — and not just for her performance on the field, saying in an interview that they are “in the midst of changing the world around us.”

“I don’t think we have anything more to say,” Rapinoe said, according to the liberal sports network ESPN.

“We are such a proud and strong and defiant group of women. We’ve done exactly what we’ve set out to do, what we wanted to do,” she added.  “Getting to play at the highest level at the World Cup is ridiculous, but to be able to couple that with everything off the field, and to back up all of those words with performances and back up those performances with words, it’s just incredible. I feel like this team is in the midst of changing the world around us, as we live. It’s an incredible feeling.”

The comment appears to be in response to a tweet from President Trump last month urging Rapinoe to “finish the job” before talking smack.
