TJ Helmstetter, a former associate communications director for the DNC, got tossed from a Washington, D.C., restaurant on the 4th of July after “standing up to a Nazi.”
Of course, considering Helmstetter, who calls himself a “progressive communicator,” is a full-on Kool-Aid drinker, that can mean only one thing.
A Trump supporter.

When asked online by the Washington Post’s Dave Weigel for details, our hero tells him he was triggered by a MAGA hat — in the face of public scrutiny, he would later hide his Twitter account behind the cloak of privacy.
“Guy wears MAGA hat at my favorite restaurant. I say ‘hey are you from dc?’ He says ‘no.’ I say ‘we don’t tolerate racism in this city,'” Helmstetter tweeted in his response. “His girlfriend then physically jabs fingers into my chest and starts threatening me. Management tells me to leave, not woman who assaulted me.”

In subsequent responses to his original tweet, Helmstetter added more context that further exposed his unhealthy hatred of MAGA hats.
“Just called the manager there and his answer was “we are an equal opportunity restaurant who welcomes all political viewpoints” before hanging up on me,” he said. “cool, except MAGA hats actually make clear that POC and LGBT are not welcome at all.”
“And for the record, the Nazi’s girlfriend assualted me by jabbing her fingers into my chest repeatedly, and I simply backed up,” he added. “Yet I was told to leave, not the Nazi or his Nazi girlfriend.”

In a display of the mentality that results in thugs from the domestic terrorist group Antifa beating people in the streets, Helmstetter tried to justify his unhinged actions by saying he has a right to tell Trump supporters that they “are racist pieces of shit.”
To be clear, it is the Nazi’s 1st amendment right to wear racist shit in public. And it is decent people’s 1A right to tell them they are racist pieces of shit. He exercised his 1A right, and I exercised mine. @HillCountryBBQ mgmt chose to protect the Nazi’s right but not mine.

He called his harassment “robust speech.”
In truth, Helmstetter may consider himself lucky that all that happened to him was that he was asked to leave the restaurant. Approach the wrong person, and a nutjob confronting a stranger with political rantings could end up nursing a bloody nose.
Either way, given how former White House press secretary Sarah Sanders was treated by a restaurant in the area, the incident did make for a little humorous comeuppance.

Hell, even those who share Helmstetter’s distaste for MAGA hats saw him as the “entitled dolt.”
I hate MAGA hats as much as the next guy, and my judgment of a person wearing one is definitely not kind. However, by your own account you behaved like an entitled dolt. By your own account, the restaurant owner was entirely justified in kicking you out. You just don’t see it.
