Tucker says Kim Jong Un was in bad health, ‘wheezing’ while Trump dominated the scene

Fox News host Tucker Carlson was on hand when President Donald Trump met with North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un in the DMZ zone on Sunday and Carlson was struck by how unhealthy Kim appeared.

Trump became the first sitting president to step foot in North Korea during a historic last-minute meeting with the dictator, and Carlson, who was just a few feet away, said President Trump “seemed to dominate” Kim, who was “wheezing like an emphysema patient.”

A remarkable assessment given that Kim, who is clearly overweight, if not obese, is just 35-years-old.

“Our president met with the North Korean leader, basically, with relatively few people watching,” he said during an appearance on Fox & Friends. “They kind of almost, like a movie scene, met after walking toward one another — actually to the border.”

Describing the moment when Trump and Kim came together and shook hands, Carlson explained that the leaders then returned to talk about three feet from him.

“Kim struck me as — he’s a hard character, there’s no question about that — maybe a little off his game,” Carlson said. “I don’t think he’s surrounded by people he doesn’t control very often — wheezing like an emphysema patient, not a healthy guy. But, basically, he struck me as kind of self-contained.”

On the other hand, he said Trump was in his element.

“Trump was about as happy as I’ve ever seen him because it really is something that hasn’t been done before and probably would not have been done without him and his very different style of governing and thinking,” Carlson continued.

He commented on how aggressive Kim’s security was, as well as the North Korean media, describing how “intense” it was when the leaders entered the Freedom House to meet — this being the moment when new White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham was roughed up and bruised in a scuffle that broke out.

The Chairman’s health was not the only thing that stood out to Carlson, as he said the DMZ felt like “the end of the earth.”

“It really felt like we were at the end of the earth, the middle of nowhere, with kind of not many people around, standing in the middle of the street. It was very odd. And, I mean, right next to Kim. I mean could have touched him, that close,” he said.

But the Fox News host continued to go back to Kim’s apparent poor health.

“He was breathing like an emphysema patient. I’m not saying that to be insulting but he was breathing in a labored way like he was out of breath,” Carlson said. “And even allowing for the historic nature of it, which I’m sure played a role in his breathlessness, but my take as a non-physician was — this is a very unhealthy guy. Very unhealthy. I mean, maybe I’m wrong… but that was the first thing I thought. This guy is in very bad health.”

Carlson said he thinks Trump respects Kim’s “toughness,” but it was clear to him who the alpha male was in the pairing.

“My sense … just standing there for an hour watching — I think [Kim] was probably a little bit overwhelmed by Trump who towers over him and who’s a very large man,” he said. “He seemed to kind of dominate him and there was a kind of magnetism and real aggression to Trump, so it didn’t feel exactly like peers. It felt like maybe an older brother-younger brother kind of situation.”

But then, there is a nearly 40 year difference in age.
