Police release footage of Jussie Smollett with rope around his neck: ‘I just wanted you all to see it’

Chicago police released 70 hours of footage and hundreds of files related to the Jussie Smollett case on Monday.

The information is all related to Smollett’s claim in January that he was attacked by two racist Trump supporters. The former “Empire” actor stated that two men wearing Make America Great again hats attacked him on the streets of Chicago and put a noose around his neck and poured bleach down his throat. He also said they yelled racist and homophobic things at him while he was being attacked.

Smollett was later charged with filing a false police report, but charges against him were dropped with little explanation. Police officials maintain that the actor made up the story about his attack, and a special prosecutor was even recently assigned to the matter to determine why the charges against Smollett were went nowhere.

Some of the newly released footage shows police questioning Smollett while the actor has the noose from the alleged attack around his neck. From the sounds of it, Smollett was claiming he had simply kept the noose around his neck since the alleged attack.

Asked if he wanted to take the rope off by police, Smollett replied, “Yeah. I do. I just wanted you all to see it.”

The actor then added, “There’s bleach on me, they poured bleach on me.”

Another suspicious moment comes when police inform Smollett that they are recording him and the actor replies, “I don’t want to be filmed.” The officers then turn off their body cameras.

“He doesn’t want this to be a big deal, you understand what I’m saying,” Smollett’s manager tells officers in the video. “The thing that makes me emotional is they put this makeshift loop, what do you call that thing, a noose around his (expletive) neck. I’m sorry, you know. And that is what bothers me, the cut thing doesn’t bother me at all. If that makes any sense.”

Check out the footage below:

Smollett and his manager’s faces are blurred in the video.

For anyone still holding out hope that Smollett was telling the truth about his alleged hate crime, this footage should be all you need to join the doubters.

First, why would Smollett keep the noose around his neck? That seems like a desperate move by a person trying really, really hard to convince police something occurred that never actually happened.

Second, Smollett’s manager says the actor doesn’t want to make a big deal out of the alleged attack, but Smollett ended up doing media interviews practically promoting himself following the attack. The interviews are partly what created doubts about the attack since the actor seemed to change his story several times.

If you still have any faith in Smollett, two men have come forward to say they were hired by the actor to stage the attack. Security camera footage has already been released showing the men buying the “supplies” to carry out the attack.

The release of this footage is hopefully a sign that true justice is on its way to Smollett.
