Trump spills on Mueller’s multiple conflicts, says he could’ve fired him, but better to let ‘hoax’ play out

President Donald Trump slammed Robert Mueller‘s “Russia hoax” and said he had full authority to fire Mueller anytime, but chose not to because he wanted the fruitless probe to play out.

“I had Article 2 powers,” Trump told Fox News host Sean Hannity (video below). “I could’ve fired Mueller for conflicts [of interest]. I could’ve fired anybody, but I didn’t want to do it because they said, ‘Let it play out, it’s a hoax. It’s a disgrace.'”

Mueller’s massive conflicts made him unable to be objective

President Trump says Mueller should have recused himself from the Russia probe because he was riddled with conflicts of interest, including the fact that the former Obama FBI director had been rejected by Trump to serve as his FBI director.

Moreover, Trump pointed out that Robert Mueller’s longstanding friendship with another former Obama FBI director — the Trump-hating James Comey — made it impossible for Mueller to be objective during the Russia investigation.

Trump said:  “I let everybody testify. I wanted to be totally open because I knew there was nothing there — nothing at all. Bob Mueller was conflicted because he wanted to be the head of the FBI again. He was already there for 10 or 12 years, but he wanted to be and I said no. I said it respectfully…And his best friend is Comey, and he played a big part in this.”

Trump added: “We had a business dispute in private life when he was out of the FBI. We had a commercial business dispute. Think of this, he supposed to be ruling on you. It was a nasty business dispute…That’s a total conflict of interest? How can someone with whom you have a dispute be ruling [on you]?”

Trump: Comey and Mueller are longtime pals

President Trump reiterated that Mueller’s objectivity was severely undercut by his close friendship with James Comey, an Obama holdover whom Trump fired as his FBI director.

“Bob Mueller was great friends with Comey — right there there’s a conflict,” Trump said. “And we had a business dispute. Despite that [I didn’t fire him or stop the investigation].

Trump also pointed out that Mueller had stacked his team with anti-Trumpers who had donated money to Hillary Clinton’s campaign, so how could they be objective toward him?

“They had 18 people that were Hillary Clinton people, ” Trump recalled. “I think all of them were anti-Trump people in one form or another, but many of these gave to Clinton’s campaign.”

POTUS: Hillary colluded with Ukraine; where’s the investigation?

As it is, Mueller’s final report concluded that there was no evidence of collusion between Russia and the 2016 Trump campaign. The report also concluded that there was insufficient evidence of obstruction of justice on Trump’s part.

Those findings are no surprise to President Trump, because he knew all along that he was innocent. “I had nothing to do with Russia, I love our country,” he gushed.

Trump also asked why the Obama FBI repeatedly ignored the multiple violations of national security and evidence of Hillary’s campaign colluding with Ukraine to rig the 2016 presidential election.

President Trump said: “Take a look at Ukraine. How come the FBI didn’t take the server? John Podesta told him to get out. How come the FBI didn’t take the server from the DNC? Think about that one.”
