Turns out, ‘chains make noise’: Antifa member arrested for trying to ‘imprison’ college Republicans

A College Republicans event at the University of Washington was interrupted by an Antifa member who attempted to lock the speakers and attendees in a room.

The Antifa member, who attempted to block speakers from local YouTube channel Operation Cold Front, was arrested Monday following the incident, The Daily Caller reported.

The College Republicans had invited speakers from OCF, black conservative Dion Thompson and Muslim conservative Saleem Juma, according to Chevy Swanson, president of the UW College Republicans who said they  were asked to speak in a Thompson Hall lecture room about the “backlash they have faced.”

Members of a local Antifa Emerald City faction were encouraged to “show up to deplatform” in a Facebook post.

“There’s space for 100 or so people, but for those who show up, some useful tactics might to sit in using large items that take up additional seats, maybe with headphones in so you don’t have to hear their garbage, or noise demo tactics such as whistles to make it difficult for them to speak over.,” the post explained.

The one member who decided to follow through didn’t attempt to sit in the meeting however and cause a distraction. He actually tried to chain the door shut with the UW College Republicans in the room.

“About 45-50 minutes into the event, we heard rattling and we saw a masked guy trying to chain the doors shut,” Swanson told the Daily Caller. “We pushed on the door to force it open, hoping the chain hadn’t already been locked. It opened and the chain fell to the ground. The masked guy ran off and some of our people chased him and held him until police arrived.”

According to The Daily Caller:

The official University of Washington police report confirmed that the Antifa member had failed to properly lock one of the doors (leaving the other alone), as the loud noise of clanging chains alerted occupants in time for them to escape the room.

Several individuals attending the meeting immediately chased the Antifa member to the nearby Husky Union Building (HUB), where he was later arrested by officer Jody Daigle for disorderly conduct.

The name of the 18-year old white male has not yet been released but he reportedly attends a special high school class on the college campus.

The school’s online student newspaper, The Daily, reported on the incident in an article published Wednesday, contending that the College Republicans were to blame.

“An end-of-quarter picnic put on by a queer student group was violently interrupted on Monday afternoon when a group of MAGA-hat-wearing men sprinted through the HUB lawn, attempting to perform a ‘citizen’s arrest’ on an 18-year-old man,” the article stated.

Calling out the OCF as an “anti-feminist” group that “specialized in provoking liberal reactions,” the article claimed that some of those attending the queer student event were actually afraid for their safety.

“We were just trying to hide any gay pride pins or anything we had on us so they wouldn’t see it. I mean, some of us were crying by the end of it all,” on student identified as Andy revealed.

Video of the event OCF’s YouTube account can be seen below with the relevant part coming just after the 50:00 mark.
