Newly uncovered information about then-Sen. Joe Biden’s voting record from 1975 to 1977 appears to indicate that the just-announced Democrat presidential candidate is a flaming hypocrite.
According to reporting by The Daily Caller, in 1975 then-Sen. Biden voted in favor of a bill to reinstate deceased Civil War Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee’s citizenship.
After the Confederates surrendered to the Union in 1865, Lee reportedly wrote then-President Andrew Johnson and asked for a pardon so that his citizenship could be restored. For reasons that remain unclear, Johnson never received the letter. Lee reportedly died five years later as a non-citizen.
Now fast-forward by exactly 110 years, when then-Sen. Harry F. Byrd of Virginia “spearheaded the push for reinstating Lee’s citizenship posthumously, and it passed through both chambers.”
Among those who voted to reinstate Lee’s citizenship was Biden.
Now fast-forward again to this past week, when the former senator turned vice president turned presidential candidate attacked President Donald Trump for the remarks he’d made after the calamitous “Unite the Right” rally that occurred two years ago in Charlottesville, Virginia.
“He said there were, quote, ‘some very fine people on both sides,’ very fine people on both sides? With those words the president of the United States assigned a moral equivalence between those spreading hate and those with the courage to stand against it,” Biden claimed.
These words were part of his 2020 announcement video.

Following the “Unite the Right” rally, where, as a reminder white supremacists and Neo-nazis had duked it out with far-left Antifa thugs, the president delivered a statement in which he noted that, despite the presence of evil people, and despite the tragedy that took the life of young activist Heather Heyer, there had been some “very fine people” at the event.
“You had some very bad people in that group, but you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides. … You had people in that group that were there to protest the taking down of, — to them — a very, very important statute,” he’d accurately said at the time.
“You had a group on one side that was bad and you had a group on the other side that was also very violent,” he said, adding that “there’s blame on both sides,” he’d rightly added.
He’d been 100 percent correct, as noted at the time by The New York Times, which interviewed a Kansas woman, Michelle Piercy, about why she’d attended the rally.
“Good people can go to Charlottesville,” she said at the time, explaining that she’d chosen to drive to the rally with her friends to protest the planned removal of a Gen. Robert E. Lee statue.
“After listening to Mr. Trump on Tuesday, she said it was as if he had channeled her and her friends — all gun-loving defenders of free speech, she said, who had no interest in standing with Nazis or white supremacists: ‘It’s almost like he talked to one of our people,’” the Times reported.
Not only had the president, therefore, told the truth, but he’d told the truth in defense of people like Piercy, a woman who clearly appreciates and recognizes the importance of history.
All this ties back to Biden, who over four decades ago displayed his own affinity for history by voting in favor of a bill to reinstate the citizenship of a deceased Confederate general who, despite having fought for the losing side in the Civil War, has nevertheless always been recognized as a dignified figure in American history. So much so that the bulk of Biden’s Democrat peers voted with him in 1975.
And so much so that many on social media rushed to Lee’s defense this week after radically far-left political activist Cenk Uygur compared him to Osama bin Laden and Henrich Himmler:

Robert E Lee was a US Citizen, West Point Graduate and grew up in Virginia. He represented the South because of his roots. Irrespective of his commitment to the South he was a very good General. By the way, most if not all Democrats voted against the 13th and 14th Ammendments.

This case differs substantially from Osama and Himmler. Robert Lee was born an American, swore an oath of allegiance to US and accepted the 13A after his surrender, and died an American. His soldiers were also American citizens before and after the war. Very different.

Robert E Lee was a fellow American. As many other countries we struggled in a Civil War, we decided an outcome and we all remained American. He deserves a large place in history for that very reason, an important American in history. Stop judging all others by current times.

Given this information, it’s immensely difficult to understand why Biden attacked Trump this week, when he knew full well — or, at the very least, should have known full well — that the president had told the truth, and that he’d done so in the defense of American history and those who love it.
Is it simply that Biden is that politically devious that he’d tell a bald-faced lie just to score some political points? Or is it rather that, much like many of his peers in the Democrat Party, he too has become radicalized to the point that he now also hates American history, if not America itself?
No matter the reason, one thing that remains clear is his hypocrisy — his endless, endless hypocrisy.
