Former CIA director John Brennan denies trying to prevent Trump from being elected, says he is willing to testify

John Brennan, the former director of the CIA, is not pleased with President Donald Trump’s reaction to the Mueller report.

Appearing on Fox News on Thursday night, the president alleged that the Mueller investigation was part of a larger “coup” to stop his presidency.

“I really say now we have to get down — because this was a coup. This was an attempted overthrow of the United States government. These are sick people, sick people,” Trump told Sean Hannity. “So let’s see what happens with McCabe and Comey and Brennan and Clapper. They were in on the act. And let’s see what happens. And let’s see how high it goes up. Because it’s inconceivable — when it goes to Clapper, Brennan, Comey, these people. I would imagine that some other people, maybe a little higher up, also knew about it — and maybe a lot higher up.”

Brennan was not happy with his name being brought up by Trump or with accusations against the intelligence community. Appearing on MSNBC on Friday, Brennan said he is open to “further investigation” into his conduct as the director of the CIA.

“Well, I don’t think it’s surprising at all that we continue to hear the sociopathic ramblings from Mr. Trump, claiming that there was this effort to try to prevent him from being elected or to unseat him,” said Brennan. “And I welcome any type of continued investigation in terms of what we did during that period of time while we were in government. I testified in front of Congress. Absolutely I would do it again. People have called for me to do. Rand Paul and others, they make these very specious allegations that have no basis in truth. But they put it into the bloodstream and then, unfortunately, certain networks will propagate that.”

As Brennan mentioned, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) has called for him to testify before Congress — and for good reason.

Paul believes, as do others, that Brennan pushed to have the Steele dossier — an unverified “report” that helped to spread conspiracy theory accusations about Trump colluding with Russia — included in an intelligence report on Russian interference into the 2016 presidential election.

“A high-level source tells me it was Brennan who insisted that the unverified and fake Steele dossier be included in the Intelligence Report… Brennan should be asked to testify under oath in Congress ASAP,” tweeted Paul last month.

In other words, the accusation is that Brennan was one of many government officials to give legitimacy to accusations that the Mueller investigation clearly proved to be wrong.

Brennan denied this specific accusation during his appearance on MSNBC.

“That’s absolutely incorrect and 180 degrees from the truth. It was CIA that was pushing not to have it included and not to be taken into account at all in that intelligence community assessment,” he said.

If Brennan wants to testify so bad, then let’s make it happen. There are some serious accusations that have been thrown at people like Brennan — as well as the Obama administration — including Trump’s campaign being spied on during the 2016 presidential election.

Now that the Mueller investigation has wasted years and millions of dollars for basically nothing, it’s time Brennan and others provide some real answers to the American people.
