Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell roasted Democrats over their “Green New Deal” rhetoric in the face of the epic failure of the vote on the legislation co-sponsored by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Democrats spent months spouting off about the environmental crisis at hand and the end of humanity in a dozen years if the bill didn’t pass but not a single one voted “yea” on Tuesday when McConnell called their bluff by forcing a vote in the Senate.

While they slammed McConnell for attempting to advance their own bill, Democrats displayed their hypocrisy by not even having the courage to vote “nay” on the climate change proposal they championed, with 43 of them just voting “present” as even 2020 contenders failed to rise to the challenge.
McConnell’s video montage, posted on Twitter Tuesday after the embarrassing vote, offered a brutal reminder that Democrats can talk the talk, but woefully failed to walk the walk when the time came.
This is quite a video https://t.co/kJILEdq3NG

Ocasio-Cortez slammed Republicans for “climate delaying” in the face of the environmental emergency even though it was the GOP’s McConnell who brought the bill up for a vote.
The GOP’s climate delaying is costing us lives + destroying communities.
Iowa, Nebraska & many in the Midwest are catastrophically flooded right now, in one of the 1st major climate change disasters of 2019.
A #GreenNewDeal urges us to pursue a plan on the scale of the problem. https://t.co/dWXe44hxWX

But the final tally was a brutal reality check on Democrats and no amount of anti-GOP rhetoric could hide how they voted.
FINAL VOTE on Green New Deal fails 0 – 57 with 43 Dems voting ‘present.’
Jones, Sinema, Manchin, and King voted with Republicans.

Perhaps more embarrassing than their votes was Ocasio-Cortez’s epic revision of what played out on the Senate floor, actually taking credit for the votes against her own legislation.
Because I encouraged them to vote present, along w/ others.
McConnell tried to rush the #GreenNewDeal straight to the floor without a hearing.
The real question we should be asking: Why does the Senate GOP refuse to hold any major hearings on climate change? https://t.co/de8oKOXeJf

Ahead of Tuesday’s vote, the self-proclaimed democratic socialist from New York accused McConnell of rushing the vote without a hearing.
“What McConnell’s doing is that he’s trying to rush this bill to the floor without a hearing… without working through committee — because he doesn’t want to save our planet. Because he thinks we can drink oil in 30 years when all our water is poisoned,” she told Vox on Tuesday.
It’s remarkable to see a party coalesce around a proposal to forcibly remake the entire country on the whims of Brooklyn and San Francisco. But it’s been even more stunning to see my Democrat colleagues angry and upset that the plan they support is about to get a vote.

Her contention that she actually encouraged lawmakers to vote against her own bill was, at the least, a confusing declaration.
AOC takes credit for everyone voting no on her own legislation. https://t.co/HJeBYARbVN

Only you could propose a bill that gets literally zero votes, and try to pass it off as a victory.

What many questioned was why, if the world is perilously close to extinction due to climate change per Ocasio-Cortez and the Democrats, would there even be a need for a hearing on the matter.
Sounds like an emergency. Better just go home and tweet about it some more. https://t.co/WBWWSoLEnN

Why would you want a hearing if you can have a vote? Do you really think a single American buys your bulls**t? https://t.co/SiQWwFeuS4
— The Reagan Battalion (@ReaganBattalion) March 26, 2019
This is the lamest excuse ever.
Why do you need a hearing? Just vote! It’s an emergency no? https://t.co/MWzcCPpbh7
— RBe (@RBPundit) March 26, 2019
Why do you need hearings on something that you say is an existential crisis? Shouldn’t you want to pass it as soon as possible?
