‘I didn’t mean…’ Joe Biden accidentally announces he’s running in a speech, then catches himself

And with the slip of a tongue, Joe Biden is in!

Former Vice President Joe Biden was speaking in Delaware on Saturday to members of the state Democratic Party and while trying to shore up support with the hard left progressive faction of the party, which he called the “New Left, accidentally let it slip that he’s running for president.

Not that he didn’t immediately recognize his mistake and correct.

“I know I get criticized. I’m told I get criticized by the new left,” Biden told the room. “I have the most progressive record of anybody running for … anybody who would run.”

The crowd did not let the moment go unrecognized. Many in the room applauded, as some rose to their feet in support of the 76-year-old Democrat running.

“I didn’t mean…” Biden then said, bowing his head and doing the sign of the cross as the room cheered him on.

“We have to bring this country back together again,” Biden continued. “I believe we are at an inflection point. I really mean it, I believe we are at an inflection point. The election in 2020 — without hyperbole — is going to be the most important election this country has undergone in over 100 years. Not a joke.”

Just like every other election ever held, according to one politician or another.

Delaware Gov. John Carney may have set the stage for the audience, telling them just before Biden spoke that the former vice president “doesn’t just look like he’s back. He looks like he’s ready for a fight,” the Daily Mail reported.

“I am not up here to break any news tonight,’ Carney said. “In my humble opinion, we have never needed Joe Biden more than we need him right now.”

Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., told reporters Biden has told him that “he is all but certain he is going to run.”

“He and Jill still have some things I think they need to pray on and reflect on before just making that final decision,” Coons said about Biden and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, according to CBS News. “But as he conveyed to me and to others, he’s 95 percent in, he’s putting together the structure that you need to have a successful launch.”

As the network reported, more than a dozen Democrats have launched presidential campaigns, which means the field is getting really crowded.

Biden seems to tip his hand on the timing of an announcement early last week when he was speaking at a conference of the International Association of Firefighters.

After being met with chants of “Run, Joe Run,” he responded: “Save it a little longer, I may need it in a few weeks,” according to the Daily Beast.

“Be careful what you wish for,” Biden then joked.
