Being left with few options by a dysfunctional Congress incapable of acting outside party interests, President Donald Trump is reportedly set to declare a national emergency on the porous southern border to secure funding to build a wall.
And while the president can honestly say he did everything possible to work with the corrupt DC political class to deliver a solution to a crisis Democrats and their media allies refuse to acknowledge, the one lawmaker who has become the face of the effort to obstruct Trump’s plans to enhance border security is threatening Republicans who support the decision.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is so set on keeping the flow of illegal immigration going that she’s willing to hold the Second Amendment hostage, warning the GOP the next Democratic president could declare a national emergency to go after guns.
“A Democratic president can declare emergencies, as well,” she told reporters in the Capitol, according to The Hill. “So the precedent that the president is setting here is something that should be met with great unease and dismay by the Republicans.”
Looking to exploit the one year anniversary of the shooting at a Parkland, Fla., high school that claimed the lives of 17 people, Pelosi claimed the real emergency is gun violence in the U.S.
“Let’s talk about today: The one-year anniversary of another manifestation of the epidemic of gun violence in America. That’s a national emergency,” the San Francisco Democrat said.

“Why don’t you declare that emergency, Mr. President? I wish you would,” she added, sounding like a petulant teenager. “But a Democratic president can do that.”

After advocating for a Democratic president to do an end-run around Congress, Pelosi would later say she wasn’t advocating for that.
“I’m not advocating for any president doing an end-run around Congress,” she would claim. “I’m just saying that the Republicans should have some dismay about the door that they are opening, the threshold they are crossing.”
The White House announced Thursday that President Trump will sign a spending deal negotiated by Congress to prevent another partial government shutdown slated to begin on Saturday, The Hill reported.
With Republicans getting outmaneuvered again, the deal only provided $1.375 billion to construct 55 miles of new barrier on the southern border instead of the $5.7 billion Trump has requested.
Not only backing Pelosi’s play, but adding to the depth of the threat, Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, D-MO., shared on social media other prospected emergencies a Democratic president could declare.
Gun violence is a national emergency
Climate Change is a national emergency
Income inequality is a national emergency
Access to healthcare is a national emergency
Building a wall on the southern border is not.

And while Trump’s decision will surely fall to the courts, where political corruption is no less a challenge, Pelosi played coy about mounting a legal challenge that will come.
“We will review our options, and I’m not prepared to give any preference to any one of them right now,” she said, according to The Hill.
But Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer were quick to politicize the issue in a joint statement, calling it a “lawless act.”
“Declaring a national emergency would be a lawless act, a gross abuse of the power of the presidency and a desperate attempt to distract from the fact that President Trump broke his core promise to have Mexico pay for his wall,” the party leaders said.
Staying true to their political narrative, they continue to deny the crisis that exists on the U.S.-Mexico border.
“It is yet another demonstration of President Trump’s naked contempt for the rule of law,” they said. “This is not an emergency, and the president’s fear-mongering doesn’t make it one.”
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell(R-Ky.), said on the Senate floor Thursday he would support the president’s national emergency declaration.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., also announced his support online.
“We face a humanitarian and national security crisis at the border that must be addressed. This funding bill is a critical step in the right direction, and I support the President in declaring a national emergency,” he tweeted, along with a statement.

Exactly…like we stop the invasion, build the wall, and all of those invaders who had been organized to travel to our southern border (and who Mexico did nothing to stop) will now be their problem. They WILL pay for it that way.

Gun crime is WAY down. So, no, it is no “national emergency.” A Democrat lying? SHOCKING!
