‘Once again, you guys are misleading the public’: GOP Rep gets in fiery exchange with CNN anchor

The pitched battle over border security is in full swing, with CNN dug in representing the Democrat Party’s view while Republican lawmakers endeavor to break their wall of noise.

That was the setting Thursday as Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Ala., appeared on the network that all but dedicates 24/7 coverage to destroying President Donald Trump to discuss a border wall and the possibility of the president declaring a national emergency with Democrat’s refusing to negotiate in good faith.

CNN anchor John Berman called Brooks out for previously opposing President Barack Obama for using executive authority — a reference to Obama circumventing Congress to make sweeping changes to immigration laws.

“Why does it appear you have one set of rules for President Obama, and another for President Trump?” Berman asked.

“Well, John, once again you guys at CNN are misleading the public,” Brooks replied. “Those are different circumstances than we face today.”

The fiery Republican went on to say that we are “facing a national emergency of major proportions” and Congress grants the executive office “the right to declare a national emergency under certain circumstance.”

“So if you want to talk apples and apples, let’s do it, but don’t make up stuff and try to mislead the public,” Brooks added.

Taking a page out of the Democratic Party playbook, Berman questioned what the emergency is, prompting his guest to point to the number of Americans killed each year by illegal immigrants and the number of deaths resulting from heroin flowing across the border — overall numbers that he set at 15,000 annually.

“How many dead people do you have to have, John, before you declare a national emergency?” he asked.

In fact-checking Brooks, the CNN host ignored the 2,000 dead Americans figure to fall back on a 2015 Cato Institute study to say illegal aliens commit fewer crimes than U.S. citizens — as if that matters to the 2,000 American families grieving each year.

Berman shamefully tried to minimize this unnecessary loss of life by comparing it to crimes committed by native-born Americans.

“That is totally immaterial to the issue at hand,” Brooks countered. “The issue at hand is how many Americans would be alive today but for our porous southern border.”

The crimes committed by illegal immigrants ever present, including the stabbing of a Long Island high school student recently that emphasizes just how fundamentally broken our immigration system is.

A 16-year-old student was stabbed after being attacked by three MS-13 members who attend the school, with one of the attackers being 20 years old. Making matters worse, all three gang members had previously been released from custody by federal judges after entering the U.S. illegally.

It was only fitting on a network that featured a contributor filing her nails during an exchange on Americans being killed by illegal immigrants that Berman continued to run interference for illegal immigration in the face of this irrefutable fact.

President Trump declared Thursday that Democrats “don’t give a damn about crime” and it’s clear that their media allies at CNN don’t much care either.

There’s a website set up by Ohio Jobs & Justice PAC that details many of the deaths by illegal immigrants, an exhaustive page that puts faces and names to the numbers.
