An NBC News report on an armed home invasion sent Twitter users into overdrive after the suspect was referred to as an “unwanted house visitor.”
A deadly shooting occurred after a New Jersey man allegedly fought off an intruder, turning the suspect’s own semi-automatic handgun against him, according to the NBC New York report Thursday.
The 29-year-old suspect, Terrence Coulanges reportedly died later at an area trauma center.
And while the details about motives or any connections the two men may have had were still being sorted out by police, the NBC station unwisely chose to refer to the man breaking into a home with a loaded weapon as a “visitor.”

Twitter users raked the station over the coals.
How DARE he shoot this “house visitor” with the “visitor’s” own gun? Does he also LOCK his doors at night to try to keep “house visitors” out!!! What is this world coming to? https://t.co/7mxZPx6OX6

Home invasions too politically incorrect to talk about in accurate terms now it seems. “Unwanted house visitor.” Wild stuff. https://t.co/Xwv6V9jpj7

WTF is an “unwanted house visitor”? Is this the “undocumented migrant” way of saying “home invader”? https://t.co/RiZ7A18qF9

An unwanted house visitor with a gun would be called either an armed robber or a criminal where I’m from.

FYI the unwanted house visitor was previously convicted for drug dealing and illegally possessed a handgun. https://t.co/gUopZNDAhN pic.twitter.com/uJe6OvW8bm

NBC now says “unwanted house visitor” instead of “home invader.” I got a hold of their style guidelines. Here are 3 others:
1) “Unwanted assisted suicide” instead of “murder.”
2) “Undocumented car owner” instead of “car thief”
3) “Undocumented husband” instead “adulterer.” https://t.co/8v30zMuQsF— Mike (@Doranimated) January 11, 2019
This is an unwanted house visitor. pic.twitter.com/LDvLKZK3VO

“Unwanted house visitor” was my divorced brother in law that stayed for 3 months. This was a criminal home invasion.

Nearly 12 hours later, @NBCNewYork is still keeping the “unwanted house visitor” headline up to describe an armed home invasion. https://t.co/sD4JwhBuF2

This Politically Correct nonsense is why @realDonaldTrump was elected, and will get re-elected!
