It seems viewers of New Year’s Eve television specials have picked a winner for the worst coverage, slamming NBC for a “train wreck” that left a path of confusion and disgust.
Before the countdown to midnight had even begun, viewers were blasting the network for the “complete disaster” being co-hosted by Carson Daly, Chrissy Teigen, Leslie Jones, and Keith Urban.
NBC this is the worst New Years Show ever!!! #Fail #NBC #HNY #NYC #CarsonDaly
— Chris Rayburn (@chrisrayburn21) January 1, 2019
Unbelievable.
Literally 10 seconds into the New Year’s Show on #NBC and immediately that loud for nothing @chrissyteigen is shouting “WE HERE! WE HERE!” and doing some drunken naked leg poses.
“We here” kinda sets the tone, no thanks. Sorry @CarsonDaly, I’m out.#NBCNYE— SoCalNative ??? (@VerbaExMachina) January 1, 2019
@CarsonDaly you should make better choices for yourself. Last night’s show was a train-wreck. Chrissy Teigen is hugely overrated & the vaginal steaming thing? Kids stay up & watch these specials. Totally unacceptable & nasty.

And when the critical moment arrived to watch the iconic ball drop in New York City’s Times Square, NBC cameras were just missing, igniting the wrath of viewers.
Holy crap @nbc You frigging MISSED THE BALL DROP #EPICFAIL
— Vicky (@vickyderd) January 1, 2019
They lost the countdown clock for the last 20 seconds. How impossibly inept can you possibly be?? #nbc
— Scott D’Amico (@scottdamico) January 1, 2019
me waiting for the ball to drop on #NBC only to realize it’s already 12? pic.twitter.com/R5PV0uUMfp

SMH ?♀️ could not even get the last 10 seconds of 2018 count down right #NBC New Year TV
— L. (@lhenrynbc) January 1, 2019
Even local coverage was a bust as viewers were left empty-handed when 2019 launched.
Watching NBC new year’s Eve broadcast. Two minutes to midnight the local newscast interrupts to show local celebration at a hotel with maybe 12 in attendance. Huge let down.

And it seems a drunken Don Lemon and anchors doing shots of tequila covering the festivities for CNN had nothing on NBC where disgusted and furious viewers raked the network over the coals for a highly inappropriate segment just minutes before midnight as model Chrissy Teigen discussed “vaginal steaming” on live television.
In case you missed @chrissyteigen talking to @CarsonDaly about vaginal steaming on the #NewYearsEve show on @nbc… pic.twitter.com/GaHaU6yC68
— ZOfficial (@ZOfficial4) January 1, 2019
“Yeah, I like to steam my vag,” Teigen, said as NBC backed her remarks with a photo she had posted showing her undergoing the cleansing traetment.
“What does that mean?” host Carson Daily asked, though he did not let her finish explaining.
Viewers were appalled and let NBC know in real time.
#nbc #RockinEve I’m embarrassed for America watching @chrissyteigen talk about vaginal steaming. Way to help me ring in the new year with family. Turning it to Fox now. ?
— Jennifer Hughes (@MrsJennHughes) January 1, 2019
#NBCNYE Ok, now, really? My 9-yr-old son does not need to hear about Chrissy’s vaginal steaming. Please god, someone resurrect Dick Clark….
— Mindibeth Wynne (@MindiWynne) January 1, 2019
AND @NBC showed a photo of said vaginal steaming. What the hell is wrong with you people?? How is this family appropriate? I’m confused…
— Holly Grisham (@grisham_holly) January 1, 2019
#NBC #New Years Eve Way to go NBC for dropping the ball! Watched the show and didn’t see a ball, but heard about virginal steaming.
— Barbara Barnett (@Barbara09175922) January 1, 2019
The “trainwreck” coverage continued as midnight saw NBC drop the ball on the ball drop and then air a cringe-worthy moment as Teigen got a nasty jab in the eye from Leslie Jones’ umbrella.
Tough start for @chrissyteigen pic.twitter.com/FxSLHOPJax

The moment was replayed repeatedly on social media, even inspiring a meme in no time.
I’M SORRY CHRISSY I’M SO SORRY BUT I HAD TO pic.twitter.com/N6OjgZ0BIi

Maybe Jones missed the rule about umbrellas in Times Square, as CNN’s Andy Cohen learned when he almost got the network’s press credentials revoked.

Jones issued apologies again later and Teigen assured those who were worried about her that she was okay, even quipping that she was going back to Times Square to find her eyeball.
I’m okay! https://t.co/JR2uo7N5ec

— christine teigen (@chrissyteigen) January 1, 2019
round. Brown dot in the middle perhaps slightly bloody.
— christine teigen (@chrissyteigen) January 1, 2019
The moment may have gone viral but it only helped to seal NBC’s fate as the source of the worst of New Year’s Eve television. Even appearances by Diana Ross, Jennifer Lopez, Kelly Clarkson and Teigen’s husband John Legend were not enough to save the sinking ship.
It was a a 100% disaster
— Anita’s View (@Well4him) January 1, 2019
Watching #NBC New Years special is like watching a #trainwreck and a #dumpsterfire combined.
— Lars Rosell (@larsrosell) January 1, 2019
NBC Is AWFUL!!!! What a horrible New Years program. They literally ruin everything they broadcast! #NBC
— Ashley Anderson (@AA72792) January 1, 2019
The show was supposed to be about celebrating the end of 2018 and start of new year. Instead it was a train wreck about @chrissyteigen & her social media status. Save the breastfeeding for an episode of Oprah, not a #NYE celebration.
— Carolyn Hildebrand (@Carolynahil) January 1, 2019
@ABC gladly hands over the worst #NYE New Years Eve Broadcast Trophy (Mariah Carey Performance 2017) to @NBC and @CarsonDaly Carson…Word of advice, don’t invite bubble headed bimbos like Teigen to host future NYE shows. You get what you pay for.
— MassHysteria (@Boston_Bull) January 1, 2019
What a bust NBC! Horrible hosting and no countdown/ ball drop. What a waste of time. #nbc #newyearseve
— Mel D. (@MelDonaldson75) January 1, 2019
Worst New Years countdown coverage ever!! Is anyone in charge at NBC???
