Italian fashion house Prada was forced to pull a store display promoting a new line of accessories amid complaints over its use of “blackface imagery” that many called “extremely racist.”
Prada — which is most famous for its overpriced handbags — launched a new range of $550 keychains, bags, jewelry and t-shirts this week.
Prada’s store in the tony Manhattan neighborhood of SoHo quickly pulled its display after lawyer Chinyere Ezie took aim at it in an angry Facebook post that immediately went viral.
“I’m shaking with anger,” Ezie wrote. “I walked past Prada’s SoHo storefront, only to be confronted with…very racist and denigrating blackface imagery.”
Meanwhile, others said the display wasn’t racist at all — it was merely cartoonish monkeys, and if you think the imaginary creatures refer to black people, then YOU are the racist.
Amid volcanic backlash on social media, the luxury fashion conglomerate apologized in a statement:
“The Pradamalia are fantasy charms composed of elements of the Prada oeuvre. They are imaginary creatures not intended to have any reference to the real world and certainly not blackface.
Prada Group never had the intention of offending anyone and we abhor all forms of racism and racist imagery. In this interest we will withdraw the characters in question from display and circulation.”
It’s unclear why no one at Prada realized that it would be condemned as racist over its ill-advised store display.
In today’s hyper-sensitive culture, no one is safe from the PC police. Just ask comedian Roseanne Barr.
As BizPac Review reported, NBC canceled Megyn Kelly‘s morning talk show shortly after she said that she didn’t understand why dressing in blackface for Halloween is considered racist.
Megyn immediately issued a groveling apology, but the damage to her career was done. Few came to Kelly’s defense, since she had alienated the right by trashing President Trump and turning on the Republican base that once enthusiastically supported her.
The left also stayed silent. Kelly quickly realized that liberals never truly accepted her when she tried to pander to “their side.” They only liked her when she was on the “other side” attacking Trump and Republicans.
Meanwhile, remember the uproar when leftist comedians Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, and Sarah Silverman did skits in blackface? Neither do we.

I guess ABC is fine with Jimmy Kimmel wearing blackface in his past to mock Oprah. The hypocrisy & double standards is unbelievable. pic.twitter.com/Fy5Keg2SdX
