It didn’t take long for things to get heated as CNN’s Chris Cuomo sparred with former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski.
The two discussed issues like the Russia investigation and President Trump’s taxes in a one-on-one interview Friday on CNN’s “Cuomo Prime Time.”
The conversation eventually turned to the issue of collusion and things went downhill after that, with Cuomo calling Lewandowski’s claims “poppycock.”
“The only collusion that took place was between the Hillary Clinton campaign, Fusion GPS and Nellie Ohr,” Lewandowski said.
“That’s poppycock. That was oppo research,” Cuomo interrupted.
“Chris, you’ve never been on a campaign where you’ve gone to a foreign country to do oppo research,” Lewandowski fired back.
“I haven’t because I’m a journalist, but it happens all the time,” Cuomo said. “That happens. You know it and I know it.”
The two then turned to debating classified documents.
“Let’s get the president to declassify the 302s that Bruce Ohr gave to the FBI about his wife’s relationship with Fusion GPS,” Lewandowski suggested, to which Cuomo agreed.
“I want everything declassified. I’m a journalist,” Cuomo said. “I want the president’s taxes…”
“Yes,” Lewandowski interjected as Cuomo was speaking.
“Did you say yes to the taxes?” the CNN host asked as Lewandowski argued that Trump’s taxes had nothing to do with classified documents and the president was not required to release them.
“Since when is the standard of the right thing to do what’s legal or illegal or what’s demanded or not demanded?” Cuomo shot back. “Do the right thing. If you’re so transparent, put it out. It’s such an ugly hypocrisy that he can just wave away.”
The two continued to argue over the release of Trump’s taxes with Lewandowski declaring that the only thing they would show is that Trump is rich. Cuomo pushed back repeatedly, asking what the president is so afraid of in releasing the tax document.
“You’re not going to learn anything by his tax return,” Lewandowski said.
“You don’t know that and we’ve learned everything we need to know by his reluctance to put them out,” Cuomo concluded.
