The ever-practical President Donald Trump offered a simple solution to the problem of migrant families being separated at the border.

“Well, I have a solution: Tell people not to come to our country illegally. That’s the solution: Don’t come to our country illegally,” Trump told reporters Tuesday outside the White House before leaving for the NATO summit in Brussels .

“Come like other people do—come legally. I’m saying this very simply: We have laws, we have borders. Don’t come to our country illegally,” the president added, responding to reports that a court-imposed deadline to reunite migrant children with their parents will be missed by the administration.

Trump went further, condemning as a “disgrace” the fight against Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

“There is nobody under greater danger that the people from ICE,” he said. “We want to support ICE, not what the Democrats are doing.”

“Remember this: Without borders, you do not have a country,” Trump said, as he walked away.

U.S. District Judge Dana Sabraw ordered the administration on June 26 to meet the July 10 deadline for reuniting children under five years old with their families and July 26 for older children.

Although only about half of the 100 or so toddlers covered by the order will be reunited with their parents by the deadline on Tuesday, Sabraw said on Monday he was “very encouraged” by the administration’s “real progress” in reuniting the families.

Trump’s direct and no-nonsense advice Tuesday was celebrated by supporters and law-abiding Americans who don’t have a problem understanding logic.
