New pro-immigrant ad features Ronald Reagan and it has one glaring problem

A pro-immigration ad that takes aim at President Trump’s hardline approach to people illegally flooding the U.S. borders launched just in time for Independence Day.

Viewers watching Fox & Friends or Morning Joe on Tuesday and Wednesday were “treated” to an ad that used President Ronald Reagan’s voice during a speech on immigration to try to make a liberal point. There’s only one big problem … Reagan was speaking about a legal immigration.

“Through this golden door, has come millions of men and women,” Reagan says.

The ad was sponsored by conservative group “Becoming American Initiative” and highlights Reagan’s enthusiasm for those around the world who have come seeking the American Dream.

“They brought with them courage and the values of family, work and freedom,” Reagan said, before adding a now very famous and familiar line: “Let us pledge to each other that we can make America great again.”

Linda Chavez served in Reagan’s administration and is the director of the organization that launched the ad. She has expressed her displeasure with Trump’s stance on immigration on Twitter:

The organization’s website states the following:

Today, the Becoming American Initiative launched its first ad featuring a video of President Ronald Reagan talking about how immigrants have always made America great. The message is especially important for conservatives and all Americans to hear on July 4th as President Trump pushes to limit immigration.

What is not mentioned, is that President Trump has also called for a “big, beautiful door” to welcome immigrants who belive in the American Dream to the U.S.

But Trump and his supporters don’t believe in encouraging hordes of unvetted migrants, thousands of them unaccompanied minors who’ve been cruelly subjected to a terrifying journey with human traffickers, to keep barging in through the back door.

There are plenty of conservatives who would argue that Reagan would fight for smart immigration and not the Democrat-supported open border fiasco America is facing today.
