A father’s fury: Former Gov. Mike Huckabee hits back for attack on ‘America’s new heroine’

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee did what most fathers would do, he got angry when his daughter, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders, became the target of a vile comedian at Saturday’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

Huckabee directed his ire at the White House Correspondents’ Association, which is responsible for the dinner, for the actions of comedian Michelle Wolf, the “hired gun” who headlined Saturday’s event and verbally attacked Sanders as she sat at the head table, just a few feet away, to include mocking President Trump’s spokesperson for her appearance.

“The WHCD was supposed to celebrate the 1st Amendment. Instead they celebrated bullying, vulgarity, and hate. They got all dressed up so they would look nicer when they had a hired gun savagely attack their guests. Do they really wonder why America has no respect for them? Sad!” Huckabee tweeted.

Sanders attended the dinner as a representative of President Trump, who wisely did not attend for the second consecutive year. After Saturday’s shameful episode, there really is no reason the White House should extend the same courtesy of sending a representative next year.

Huckabee thanked New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman for having the “guts” to condemn Wolf’s “performance, and expressed concern that his grandchildren may one day see the assault on their mother.

“Sincere and heartfelt THANKS to @maggieNYT for having guts to publicly denounce the vicious vile attack on @PressSec at WHCD. @PressSec handled it professionally but I pray her kids never see that. I pray more they never bully another person like that,” he tweeted.

Huckabee also had a message for those hiding behind the First Amendment, which includes White House Correspondents’ Association.

“Those who think that the tasteless classless bullying at the WHCD was an example of the 1st Amendment should never condemn bullying, bigoted comments, racist bile or hate speech. People should be free to speak but held accountable for it,” he tweeted.

Clearly, the attack on his daughter did not sit well with Huckabee, who revisited Wolf’s classless act a third time a couple of hours later, suggesting she should have her “mouth washed out w/ soap.”

“After seeing the young female hired to verbally bully anyone who worked for @realDonaldTrump I now understand why eating Tide Pods is popular. That level of vulgarity is best handled with a mouth washed out w/ soap. Have some more Tide Pods,” the Republican politician tweeted.

As a Christian, Huckabee is a ready target for the hate-filled left, who responded to his tweets with even more vile insults, but a social media user summed up well the sentiments of those who understand how a father would feel.

…while reminding us just how tough that daughter is.

“My heart goes out to Governor Huckabee who had to witness his daughter being savaged by that pack of unvarnished reprobates. But, as the Governor knows, Sarah is not one to be easily intimidated. She is now America’s new heroine,” the tweet read.
