In the midst of what’s become a media circus swirling around Comey’s partisan memoir, there’s a few hot-takes that are nothing short of pure gold. Comey’s unapologetic longing to be liked by Hillary while simultaneously admitting that he’s an “idiot” is one of them.
While speaking to USA Today about Loretta Lynch’s possible nefarious role in the Clinton email probe, Comey quickly turned the conversation around – to martyr himself.
“I pray no FBI director ever has to deal with this again because it was just a series of no-win decisions,” Comey said.
The former FBI head insisted that everything is explained in the book and expressed his desire for Hillary Clinton to read it and hopefully forgive him.
“And my hope is, I even hope Hillary Clinton at least reads those parts of the book, because I think she will walk away saying, ‘You know what, I think that guy’s an idiot, but you know he’s kind of an honest idiot. He’s trying to do the right thing here, and I kind of get actually what he was faced with.’”
Comey has been on what could be argued the most bizarre and self-indulgent “apology” book tour in the history of the world. He makes no secret of his desire that Clinton come to understand why he opened the email investigation weeks before the 2016 presidential election. A move that may have given independent voters pause to pull the lever for Hillary.
Comey admitted in his book his decision was politically motivated and that his goal was to clear the air, so that when Clinton took her role as president (they never thought she’d lose) she wouldn’t have an investigation hanging over her head that could dub her “an illegitimate president.”
As we now know, Comey fast tracked Clinton though the “investigation,” exonerating her before all evidence was gathered and key interviews were conducted.
Had she won, there’s little doubt any of these nefarious deeds would have come to surface, at least not for long. But since the election didn’t go the way of Comey and the Democrat Party, the former FBI director hopes that Clinton can see that at least he meant well – for her, and for the left’s political agenda that is.
