Here’s how many Illegals who escaped ICE after mayor’s warning have already committed new crimes

Hundreds of illegal immigrants escaped a San Francisco area raid by federal immigration authorities last month following a warning from a Democratic mayor, and three have already been arrested for committing new crimes.

The three illegal immigrants were among 800 who managed to avoid capture last month after Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf tweeted out a warning of an impending sweep by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. While officials did catch up with 232 of them, hundreds more – many criminals – escaped.

Thomas Homan, deputy director at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, announced on Tuesday that at least three of those have now been caught due to new criminal activity, including robbery, drunken driving and spousal abuse, Fox News reported.

“Three of the people we couldn’t locate have since reoffended,” he said at a White House roundtable on sanctuary cities Tuesday.

According to Fox News:

One was a Mexican national arrested for robbery and gun crimes, who was released back into the community for a prior offense despite an ICE detainer request in November.

Another Mexican national was arrested for a DUI, despite having been deported three times and prior convictions for false imprisonment, DUI and battery of a spouse.

The third was a Mexican national who was arrested for corporal injury of a spouse, despite being deported twice and criminal convictions including drug possession, hit-and-run, DUIs, possessions of narcotics equipment and a parole violation.

“So if he’s getting arrested three times, how many times has he committed this crime? That is a public safety threat,” Homan said, referring to the third suspect, The Washington Times reported.

Politicians in sanctuary states were also a source of frustration for the ICE chief.

“We are told on one hand to focus efforts on criminals but those same folks who want to focus on criminals don’t let us into the county jails,” he said, according to Fox News. “It just defies logic.”

The Justice Department is suing California over its sanctuary city policies and is reviewing Schaaf’s actions as possible obstruction of justice. California continues to flaunt its sanctuary status, opting to protect illegal immigrants by passing laws aimed at thwarting efforts by federal immigration agents to protect the state’s legal residents.

Schaaf has refused to back down from her stance, defending her actions amid strong criticism from ICE officials and the Trump administration.

“How dare you! How dare you needlessly endanger the lives of our law enforcement officers to promote a radical, open borders agenda!” Attorney General Jeff Sessions said in California ealier this month, addressing Schaaf.

Vice President Mike Pence slammed the Democrat last week for her “disgraceful” action and “setting aside her oath of office to uphold the laws of the land.”

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi accused ICE agents of staging “cowardly attacks” on illegal immigrants and was summarily blasted by Homan. “How dare you call them cowardly?” he fired back at the California Democrat last week.
