Michelle Obama was lit up on social media as she faced backlash for what seemed an ignorant comment on a film debut.
The former first lady sang the praises of the new Marvel Studios super hero movie, “Black Panther,” which opened with the highest-grossing February debut of $201.8 million, according to The Washington Times.
Congrats to the entire #blackpanther team! Because of you, young people will finally see superheroes that look like them on the big screen,” Obama tweeted. “I loved this movie and I know it will inspire people of all backgrounds to dig deep and find the courage to be heroes of their own stories.”

Guess Obama had not heard that left-wing magazine Salon was duly scorched after making the claim that “Black Panther” is the “first blockbuster-format release featuring a black hero front and center.”

Apparently Will Smith, Denzel Washington and Wesley Snipes did not make the cut.
“Black Panther” is not the racial milestone Obama touted it to be, as movie fans quickly mocked the former first lady for her lack of movie history knowledge.
Do I come from a parallel universe ? Is that why nobody seems to remember the 3 very successful Blade movies ? You know, the ones with the black Marvel hero Blade. Guess I may have imagined them and this film is really groundbreaking. Sorry Mr Snipes

So which is it: did you never watch super hero movies and read comics till this year or were none of the awesome black super heroes from years before good enough for you?https://t.co/H01JM4akQY

Err hello – Halle Berry – Xmen bloody fab actress with a major role . Will Smith a legend in his own right. Denzel Washington, Morgan freeman, actors should be recognised on TALENT not on race.

I guess you’ve never watched #Hancock or #Blade before. Congrats on making EVERYTHING about race.

Are you saying no other black superhero thats come before matters? I think Will Smith would be pissed…

Normal people: “I think we should move past ideas of race and focus on who people are on the inside”
The leftist: “why are you always talking about race, racist!?”
