President Trump blasted Democrats for their abandonment of DACA recipients as the Senate this week rejected three separate immigration proposals.
Each of the bills, which addressed the fate of “Dreamers” — immigrants illegally brought into the U.S. when they were children as part of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program – were voted down in the Senate on Thursday.
“Cannot believe how BADLY DACA recipients have been treated by the Democrats…totally abandoned!” Trump tweeted Friday about the Obama-era program. “Republicans are still working hard.”

A compromise bill that got 54 votes sought to establish a path to citizenship for Dreamers while putting about $25 billion aside for Trump’s proposed border wall, The Hill reported. The bill fell six votes short of the needed 60 to pass.
Trump pressed for his own proposal which was sponsored in the Senate by Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and created a pathway to citizenship while also curbing legal immigration. That proposed bill received only 39 votes in the Senate.
The Trump administration ended DACA and set a March 5 deadline to start to phase it out, although a judge ruled against Trump’s plan this week.
Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin was among Democrats firing back at the president’s tweet.
Give me a break. You killed DACA and have now rejected six bipartisan deals to protect Dreamers. I’ve been fighting for Dreamers for 17 years and will never abandon them. We could pass the Dream Act today if you simply called on the Republicans who control Congress to support it. https://t.co/HtYMjW4nQo

No one is falling for this. YOU ended #DACA protections. YOU threatened to veto a bipartisan solution in the Senate. #Dreamers’ lives are being thrown into chaos, and YOU are to blame. https://t.co/tQwbeC9S94

The White House blamed the “Schumer Democrats” for the failure to pass any of the proposed plans this week.
“Today, the Schumer Democrats in the Senate demonstrated again that they are not serious about DACA, they are not serious about immigration reform, and they are not serious about homeland security. They filibustered a proposal with an extremely generous path to citizenship because it also contained reforms that secured our border and secured our immigration system,” White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said in a statement Thursday.
“And while radical Schumer Democrats align themselves with the open border fringe, the Trump Administration will continue advocating for the American people,” she added.
