After NBC openly endorsed Oprah for president during Sunday night’s Golden Globes, the network scrambled to blame the overt bias on the proverbial “third-party agency.”
The official NBC Twitter account tweeted a photo of Winfrey, along with a caption that read: “Nothing but respect for OUR future president #GoldenGlobes.”
After the expected fallout from NBC effectively launching Oprah’s 2020 presidential run, the network deleted the tweet and posted a follow-up message Monday insisting it was all a misunderstood response to a joke sent by a third-party.
“Yesterday a tweet about the Golden Globes and Oprah Winfrey was sent by a third-party agency for NBC Entertainment in real-time during the broadcast,” the network said. “It is in reference to a joke made during the monologue and not meant to be a political statement. We have since removed the tweet.”

As for their original tweet, President Trump’s oldest son, Donald Trump Jr., was only too glad to remind the country of the bias directed against his father”
Strange. Seems that @nbc took down there tweet. In case you missed it here it is. pic.twitter.com/gjOXbj3IKO

And while the third-party claim may appear to be a legitimate excuse, as CBS Radio’s Mike Lyons noted, NBC still bears responsibility.
He tweeted: “Today’s lesson – you can outsource the task, but that doesn’t mean you have transferred responsibility.”

Social media users let NBC have it online for the faux pas, here’s a sampling of the responses from Twitter:
Don’t even control your own content…then blame the little guy…just take the blame for once…you fucked up…@NBCNews

??? They thought about it all night. “How do we cover for this? Crap! Crap! We are going to have to make Oprah our next corporate president.”
NBC intern:um guys, can’t we say 3rd party mistake?
