Following a tongue-lashing by President Donald Trump after vicious comments he’d made, former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon says he still supports the president.
“The President of the United States is a great man,” Bannon said Wednesday during the “Breitbart News Tonight” radio show on Sirius XM radio. “You know I support him day in and day out.”

The comments came after an explosive falling out following the release of book excerpts that quoted Bannon calling a meeting with Donald Trump Jr. and a Russian lawyer at Trump Tower in 2016 “treasonous” and “unpatriotic. The Breitbart CEO also claimed “they’re going to crack Don Junior like an egg on national TV” over the meeting.
Bannon’s comments on the radio program Wednesday came in response to a caller’s question about the president’s scalding rebuke of his former staffer.
“Steve Bannon has nothing to do with me or my presidency. When he was fired, he not only lost his job, he lost his mind,” Trump said in an official statement Wednesday.
Trump’s lawyers reportedly sent a cease-and-desist letter to Bannon on Wednesday, ordering him to refrain from making “disparaging” comments about the president and his family.
Bannon made no other comments about the dramatic turn of events and he did not address the letter.
Nearly 2 hours into “Breitbart News Tonight” Sirius XM radio show, a caller references Trump’s comments on Bannon. Bannon replies, “The president of the United States is a great man. You know I support him day in and day out.”

Bannon left the White House in July, returning to his previous post as Breitbart News executive chairman. Breitbart readers did not take kindly to Bannon’s apparent betrayal of Trump.
