Democratic Rep. argues Trump is trying to shut down entire U.S. government except presidency

A Democratic congresswomen is convinced President Donald Trump is trying to consolidate power by shutting down the rest of the U.S. government.

Rep. Jackie Speier put forth her ridiculous argument, saying Trump could “become a tyrant” if he is not held in check.

“I am concerned that the president of the United States is systematically trying to shut down every possible branch of government but the presidency,” the California Democrat said on MSNBC on Tuesday, conveniently ignoring all of the dictatorial moves by former President Obama.

“So you got him attacking the judiciary, you have him attacking the CIA, you have him attacking the Department of Justice, the FBI. I mean this is the conduct of someone who could become a tyrant if we don’t step in and speak out against him,” she said.

“I think he is being so un-presidential and he is undermining the very foundation of this country and institutions that we hold so dear and that are protected in the Constitution of the United States,” she added.

Trump has repeatedly criticized the FBI and its “tainted” investigation into alleged meddling in the 2016 election by Russia.

Speier declared in a separate CNN interview that Trump “does not respect the rule of law,” and does not respect “the various agencies that are charged with responsibility of protecting us.”

The Democrat lawmaker, along with fellow Californians, Rep. Adam B. Schiff and Rep. Eric Swalwell, sit on the House Intelligence Committee which has spent nearly a year investigating Trump and the unverified Fusion GPS dossier while uncovering no evidence of collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign.
