US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley painted a grim picture for North Korea, warning Kim Jong-un’s government that they “will be utterly destroyed” if they keep up the aggressive behavior.
In the wake of North Korea’s latest intercontinental ballistic missile test on Tuesday, Haley rebuked the rogue nation at an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council, the Associated Press reported.
“The dictator of North Korea made a decision yesterday that brings us closer to war, not farther from it,” Haley said Wednesday. “We have never sought war with North Korea and still today we do not seek it.”
But if the Asian country’s actions lead to the ultimate conflict, Haley issued a message that was more than clear.
“If war comes, make no mistake, the North Korean regime will be utterly destroyed,” she said.
Tuesday’s ICBM launch was North Korea’s first in over two months, flying further than previous launches and, according to North Korea, was capable of striking the “whole mainland” of the U.S. The launch seemed to be an open defiance in the face of President Donald Trump’s decision to restore North Korea to a U.S. list of terror sponsors, a move the Russian government criticized for increasing tensions.
Trump responded to the missile test with threats to increase sanctions against the isolated nation.
Just spoke to President XI JINPING of China concerning the provocative actions of North Korea. Additional major sanctions will be imposed on North Korea today. This situation will be handled!

Haley echoed Trump’s sentiments at Wednesday’s Security Council meeting, calling on member nations to ramp up sanctions against North Korea and noting the president’s call to cut off all oil deliveries to the nation.
“That would be a pivotal step in the world’s effort to stop this international pariah,” she said.
