Former MSNBC host Keith Olbermann not only tweeted an inane comparison of President Trump to Islamic terrorists, he then attempted to defend his rhetoric on television.
Appearing Friday on ABC’s “The View,” Olbermann was asked about a recent tweet in response to Donald Trump Jr., claiming that President Trump and his family “have done more damage to America than [Osama] Bin Laden and ISIS combined.”
“Do you believe that?” co-host Sunny Hostin asked the former ESPN commentator who now hosts GQ’s political web show “The Resistance.”
Why do you separate yourself from the terrorists, Dondi? You and your family have done more damage to America than Bin Laden + ISIS combined https://t.co/TaKeIP6RFt

“Yeah, we did really well after 9/11,” he responded. “I don’t think that the country has given itself enough credit for what we did not do. We did not restrict all the freedoms in this country. We did not single out people.”
Co-host Meghan McCain was visibly shocked.
“3,000 people died on 9/11. I mean, the comparison is absurd,” McCain said.
“But more people died in the Iraq War than died in 9/11. We didn’t need to be there as a response,” Olbermann said, taking the absurd even further.
“You think Bin Laden did less to damage America than President Trump?” McCain pressed, to which Olbermann immediately replied, “Yes.”
McCain did not back down.
“Can I tell you something? When I hear rhetoric like that, I think Whoopi [Goldberg] and I are in agreement that we want Americans to come together. Rhetoric like that is so damaging.” she said.
She continued scolding Olbermann, defending her brother’s service in the Iraq war, and noting that bin Laden was dedicated to the destruction of all, everything that we hold dear and our freedom.”
Hostin interjected that some people think the same of Trump to which McCain responded by saying she was the one speaking. A tense moment unfolded as the two co-hosts wrangled over who had the green light to speak.
McCain came back to Olbermann with a simple question.
“Do you want President Trump to fail?” McCain asked “Do you want America to fail? Because I’m genuinely curious.”
