While it may be “okay” to be white — a debatable construct in progressive circles — to express that sentiment nowadays is likely to result in charges of “hate speech.” That was seen this week when a number of such signs turned up on college campuses around the country, the ABC affiliate WDAY reported.
The signs turned up at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, apparently in response to a 4chan post that disseminated a game plan for people to put on a “silly Halloween costume” and put up the signs, leaving “the media & leftists frothing at the mouth.”
“It’s OK to be white,” the signs declared.
4chan is an online image board frequented by various Internet ne’erdowells, where users can generally post inflammatory content anonymously.
“I just realized how much hate is going on. We live in a world without love, and it’s crazy,” said Moshe Mekori, a black student at the school. “I thought this was the last place I would see that, but apparently it’s happening.”
Concordia College responded to the “incident” by announcing that some type of open forum is being created for students to discuss the topic, WDAY reported.
The “disturbing” message even turned up around Cambridge Common and Harvard Square, The Boston Globe reported.
Stickers saying “It’s okay to be white” were seen Wednesday morning on light poles and electrical boxes.
Cambridge police were notified and officers were sent to investigate, a spokesman told the newspaper.
Signs were seen at Tulane University in New Orleans, appearing in residence halls, academic buildings and the homecoming windows for multicultural organizations, the Tulane Hullabaloo reported.
Easily triggered, insecure students were quick to jump on the bait.
Mike Strecker, executive director for Tulane University public relations, said the school is reviewing available video surveillance footage to identify the responsible parties.
“We believe these signs were posted at Tulane as part of a national campaign,” he said. “To state the obvious, it is ‘okay’ to be any race.”
The liberal media reacted as predicted — by decrying the “hate speech.”
Here’s a sampling of responses to the planned provocation via Twitter:
