The Associated Press has generated backlash after it boldly solicited Gold Star families to come forward with their stories of contact with the White House.
With the left-wing national media on a never-ending search for the latest way to bash President Trump, exploiting the pain of service families who have lost loved ones in combat is not off-limits.
Are you a member of a Gold Star family who’s had contact with the White House? Confidentially share your story here: https://t.co/fRPjyDw20X

Of course, there is no direct indication that the AP is looking for those predisposed to slam Trump, but with the latest display of the biased media’s coverage of the president’s remarks to a Gold Star widow, it is not a stretch to assume this is the case.
One of the first responses to the AP tweet from a former Reuters journalist called attention to just that.
This seems outside of the scope of “journalism”.

Trump’s private phone conversation to the grieving widow of Sgt. La David Johnson, who was killed in an ambush attack in Niger earlier this month, was publicized and misrepresented by a Democratic congresswoman. The situation spiraled as Rep. Frederica Wilson slammed the president for what she claimed were insensitive comments to Johnson’s widow, while Trump accused the Florida Democrat of having “fabricated” his words.

The press locked into the feeding frenzy as each comment that emerged in the story prompted another round of accusations, attacks and more media coverage as families of the fallen were paraded by news outlets in hopes of making Trump look bad.

Was the AP request to interview Gold Star families considered real journalism in light of the media’s relentless pursuit to regularly show Trump in a bad light?
This was the debate on social media as many Twitter users weighed in on what Fox News contributor Brian Flood called the liberals’ push to “weaponize” Gold Star families.
“Mainstream media outlets now seem to be approaching the families of dead soldiers one by one in an attempt to find the next controversy surrounding President Trump,” Flood wrote. “The families of fallen soldiers now are used as political ammunition and, sadly, there seems to be no end in sight in the current media landscape.”
this is shitty, please relive your greatest pain so we can prove a point

This is loaded, I cannot imagine a Democrat saying anything positive and some will just lie. Skewed. Bad journalism.

It’s totally voluntary. You represent it as if Gold Star families are being hounded. It’s literally just a tweeted invitation. Optional.
— Kyla Boyse (@boysek) October 19, 2017
As a Gold Star mom this is just wrong.
— Carla Kryston (@telepole42) October 18, 2017
absolutely inappropriate.

Politicizing fallen soldiers and their families for political rhetoric is vile and disgusting. The media are bottom feeders. Grow up!

Seriously? Let’s use grieving, gold star families to try and get something on Trump. Assholes.

Did the #Benghazi families share their stories with you? No. They were lied to by @HillaryClinton and @BarackObama. #NotAVideo @TantoParonto

To politicize their loss. Disgusting.

The answer is NO. The AP is only searching for a respondent willing to tell a bad story whether it is true or not
