Investigators have plenty of questions about suspected Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock and hope to find some answers when they get the opportunity to speak with girlfriend Marilou Danley, who was traveling abroad.
Even Danley’s nephew, Jordan Knights, is baffled over what prompt Paddock to open fire on concertgoers attending the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival taking place next to the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, killing at least 59 people and wounding hundreds more.
“He didn’t seem like he was the type of guy to do that,” Knights told Autralia’s 9 News. “I didn’t even know he knew about guns.”
The nephew lives in Queensland, Australia, and met Danley and her partner Paddock when he backpacked across America with his mother Amelia Manango — Danley was cleared by police, but that came as no surprise to Knights.
“I knew that she would have had nothing to do with it,” he said.
Knights came away from meeting Paddock with an “unremarkable” impression of a man now seen as the worst mass murderer in modern U.S. history, 9 News reported.
“It seemed like he just looked after my aunty and that was it,” Knights explained.
A description not too different from what was offered by the gunman’s brother, Eric Paddock.

“He was just a guy. Something happened, he snapped or something,” the brother said from his home in Orlando, Florida. “We know absolutely nothing, this is just… we are dumbfounded.”
“He is a guy who lives in a house in Mesquite, who drove down and gambled in Las Vegas,” Paddock added. “He did stuff, ate burritos.”
His brother also shot down 59 people in cold blood, before turning his gun on himself and committing suicide.
