In the face of persistent charges of racism from the left, President Donald Trump stressed on Sunday that his stance in support of the national anthem “has nothing to do with race.”
Liberals have managed to flip things on their head, where refusing to show respect for the country is cheered in the media and those who take a stand against the action are vilified.
The president pushed the controversy over the national anthem into the stratosphere on Friday when he used the phrase “son of a bitch” to describe those who refuse to stand for the national anthem, saying they should be fired.
But a defiant Trump rejected any racial implications Sunday while speaking on the tarmac in New Jersey before boarding Air Force One, according to Fox News.
“This has nothing to do with race. I never said anything about race,” he said. “This has to do with respect for our country and respect for our flag.”
Trump maintained his stance that players who kneel should be dealt with.
“I think the owners should do something about it,” he insisted. “It’s very disrespectful to our flag and our country.”
The president pushed this point again Monday on social media.
“The issue of kneeling has nothing to do with race. It is about respect for our Country, Flag and National Anthem. NFL must respect this!” he tweeted.
