Republicans are demanding a second special counsel be appointed to investigate Hillary Clinton and other former officials in the Obama administration.
GOP members of the House Judiciary Committee have asked the Justice Department for a second investigator, separate from Special Counsel Robert Mueller, to probe actions by former Secretary of State Clinton, former FBI Director James Comey and former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, The Hill reported.

“While we presume the FBI’s investigation into Russian influence has been subsumed into Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation, we are not confident that other matters related to the 2016 election and aftermath are similarly under investigation,” the lawmakers stated in the letter, accusing Mueller’s probe of being too narrow.
“The unbalanced, uncertain, and seemingly unlimited focus of the special counsel’s investigation has led many of our constituents to see a dual standard of justice that benefits only the powerful and politically well-connected,” they continued.
The Republicans listed 14 questions that remain unanswered and need to be addressed by a newly appointed second special counsel.
They called for a deeper probe of allegations that Clinton mishandled classified information, and the resulting “shadow cast over our system of justice.” They also questioned “the failure of DOJ to empanel a grand jury” to investigate that mishandling by Clinton and her associates.
The GOP lawmakers asked that a second investigator also look into WikiLeaks disclosures about the Clinton Foundation, and connections between Clinton and foreign entities, like Russia and the Ukraine.
Other items to investigate include former Attorney General Loretta Lynch’s direction to former FBI Director James Comey to refer to the Clinton email probe as a “matter” instead of as an investigation. A special counsel should also look into any “admitted leaks” by Comey as well as the alleged unmasking of Trump administration officials by the Obama administration,
“You have the ability now to right the ship for the American people so these investigations may proceed independently and impartially. The American public has a right to know the facts — all of them — surrounding the election and its aftermath,” the Republicans concluded in the letter. “We urge you to appoint a second special counsel to ensure these troubling, unanswered questions are not relegated to the dustbin of history.”
