Nevada Senator Dean Heller is going to support his party’s health care efforts … if he wants to remain a senator that is.
That’s the word from President Trump anyway, a word given in front of cameras while sitting right beside the GOP senator.
They seemed to be said in jest, but Heller also shouldn’t be too surprised if he finds a horse’s head in his bed tonight.
President Trump made the remarks at a Wednesday lunch gathering of Republican senators meant to revitalize stalled attempts at repealing and replacing Obamacare. Directing his attention to Heller, who is among the bill’s GOP opponents, Trump said, “The other night I was very surprised when I heard a couple of my friends…they might not be very much longer.”
Directing his attention to a laughing Heller, Trump said, “Well, no, you weren’t out there! This was the one we were worried about and you weren’t there.”
“Look, he wants to remain a senator, doesn’t he?” Trump continued, as things got a bit more awkward. “And I think the people of your state, which I know very well, I think they’re going to appreciate what you’re hopefully going to do.”
Veiled threat or no, if the GOP doesn’t get SOMETHING done on health care Heller won’t be the only one to pay a heavy price from voters – and it won’t have anything to do with President Trump!
