Sean Spicer’s getting a promotion; important job up for grabs

On Monday, White House officials confirmed that Press Secretary Sean Spicer will be taking on an elevated role in the communications department.

According to a White House Statement: “We have sought input from many people as we look to expand our communications operation. As he did in the beginning, Sean Spicer is managing both the communications and press office.”

Instead of handling day-to-day press duties, a job which earned the press secretary mixed reviews and a running gag on Saturday Night Live, Spicer will oversee the entire communications department, which would also include the press office.

Which means, of course, that a prominent job is about to open up, and the person who fills it will be the face of the Trump Administration to the media and, when televised, to the rest of the country as well.

It’s an important gig, and it’s even more important to get the hire right.

Although Fox News’ John Roberts reports that the White House is fond of Principal Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who has certainly done an admirable job filling in for Spicer on occasion, two others have reportedly already been interviewed for the position – Daily Mail editor David Martosko and conservative commentator and radio show host Laura Ingraham.

Ingraham, a friend of President Trump’s and a longtime supporter, is known as an excellent communicator who is quick on her feet. And although she has also been a critic of the president when necessary, such as the time she encouraged him to stop the “Twitter wars,” the president’s base would welcome the news.

But a potential Ingraham nod has libs in a tizzy as well… which is actually a good thing!
