‘What the hell are we investigating?’ GOP Rep concerned after learning who’s part of Mueller’s probe

A Republican congressman slammed the special counsel investigation of alleged Russian meddling in the U.S. election, calling the FBI probe a “charade.”

Rep. Sean Duffy voiced his confusion and concern over what exactly the counsel, led by former FBI director Robert Mueller is investigating, following reports that the probe now includes investigation team members with questionable actions in their past.

“This seems more like an effort to prosecute Donald Trump than it is to investigate,” the Wisconsin congressman said on Fox News’ “The Story with Martha MacCallum” on Monday.

“And my concern, Martha, is what the hell are we investigating?” he added, noting that former FBI chief James Comey already testified that there is no evidence of collusion between President Trump and Russia.

The newest additions to the Mueller team include a litigator who has reportedly been reprimanded on charges of obstruction and another who apparently donated thousands of dollars to Democratic candidates.

Duffy echoed the words of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich who called the probe nothing short of a “witch hunt” and a “set-up.”

The special counsel investigation into whether there was any Russian election meddling is also reportedly looking into possible connections between the Trump campaign and Russian officials.

But Duffy condemned the probe as just an attempt to undermine Trump’s election victory.

“Why are we going through this charade of an investigation when there’s no evidence that Donald Trump had anything to do with the Russians?” he asked.

“This is the Democrats’ effort to undermine the election results of last November 8 and get their net end result, which is Donald Trump out of the White House,” he concluded.
