Democrats who were looking forward to former FBI Director James Comey’s testimony got more than expected as he appeared to throw former Attorney General Loretta Lynch under the bus.
Testifying before the Senate Intelligence Committee in a public hearing Thursday, the fired FBI chief revealed that Lynch directed him to refer to the FBI probe into Hillary Clinton’s email server as a “matter” instead of an investigation.

Committee chairman Sen. Richard Burr asked Comey why he made his announcement last July regarding the email investigation.

“Was your decision influenced by the attorney general’s tarmac meeting with the former President Bill Clinton?” the North Carolina Republican asked.
Comey admitted that the tarmac meeting “capped it for me to protect the credibility of the investigation.”
“There were other things that contributed to that,” he added, explaining what led to his decision to make the independent announcement in July 2016.
“Probably the only other consideration that I guess I can talk about in an open setting is, at one point, the attorney general had directed me not to call it an investigation, but instead to call it a matter, which confused me and concerned me,” Comey continued.

Later in the hearing, Comey revealed that the Clinton campaign used “euphemisms [like] security review” to describe FBI investigations which were “inaccurate” and gave him “a queasy feeling.”

While many were hanging on every word of the highly anticipated testimony of Comey’s private conversations with President Trump and the investigation into alleged collusion between his campaign and Russia, the runaway story of Lynch’s actions raised collective eyebrows on Twitter.
