Former CIA Director James Woolsey was complimentary of President Donald Trump’s stance against terrorism while discussing the attack Monday in Manchester, England, that killed as many as 22 people.
Praise that earned an immediate push-back from pompous ass Shepard Smith.
Woolsey suggested that “things are kind of coming to a head” during an appearance on Fox News, pointing his finger to the likely source behind the attack.
“I think radical Islamists have decided to pick up the pace with the terrorist attacks and I think we’ll probably see some more,” he said. “And we now have a president who is pretty straightforward that he is at war with them. He’s not going to soft-peddle that, he calls them evil.”
Woolsey then criticized the previous administration for that very behavior.
“And we haven’t had a situation like that,” he added. “We did not have, in the eight years of the Obama administration, a president who wanted to fight and win a war.”
And that’s when Smith came to Obama’s defense.
“President Obama fought a number of wars, and certainly didn’t say that he didn’t want to win them,” Smith argued. “With great respect, it’s very early to make this a political matter.”
But he wasn’t finished, dismissing Woolsey’s objections by repeating the “lone wolf” narrative often heard on the left.
“We don’t know what this is, we are led to believe … this was a single person with a single bomb,” Smith said. “They’ve not ascribed any motive to this.”
He added that as a news organization, Fox News doesn’t have the luxury of reporting opinion — other than his own, of course.
