Rep. Maxine Waters faced a few speaking challenges at the California Democratic Party convention, sparking outrage when her microphone was inexplicably cut off.
African American Caucus leaders demanded an explanation into why the California Democrat was interrupted and had the sound cut off during her address to the group on Saturday, according to the Los Angeles Times.

“This is a very unusual situation, and we are collectively trying to figure out a path forward to address what happened and make sure these things do not happen in the future,” Caucus Chairman Darren Parker said.
With her vocal and abrasive attacks against President Trump, Waters has become the new darling of the Democratic Party. She was in the middle of a scathing speech against Trump on Saturday when a man believed to work for the convention center approached her.
“Hey, leave her alone,” members of the audience shouted.
Parker stepped in to push the man away as he attempted to speak to the congresswoman privately.
“That’s all right, that’s OK — they try to shut me up all the time,” Waters said, as the audience stood and cheered.
But a short time later, the sound to her microphone was shut off prompting Waters to step down from the podium and continue her speech.

The crowd of about 300 people, according to the LA Times, cheered as Parker condemned the actions, shouting that it would not be tolerated while pounding his fist on the table.

Apparently those who pulled the plug on the sound were not employed by the facility, a manager for the Sacramento Convention Center told The Times on Monday.
Caucus leaders discovered that the audio was provided by an outside firm hired by the state Democratic Party, and not a convention staff or city employee, as Parker initially thought. He called the incident unusual and disrespectful, noting that previous events that have run late ended up being billed to the caucus for the extra expense.
“We are working directly with statewide officers to make sure that these outside contractors are properly instructed on how to act and how to treat our guests,” Parker said.
Twitter users weighed in on the incident and the fact that, at least for Republicans, Waters is “the gift that keeps on giving.”
