Rep. Maxine Waters offered up another one of her zany conspiracy theories claiming that Russian President Vladimir Putin was actually the one behind the “crooked Hillary” and “lock her up” phrases used in the 2016 presidential campaign.
The California Democrat discussed her repeated calls for Trump’s impeachment, pointing to evidence of the president’s collusion with the Russians, during her appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Thursday.
The only problem with Waters’ claims is that there is no evidence to back them up.
The Huffington Post’s Sam Stein seemed baffled by Waters and her references to collusion.
“I want to define what you mean by collusion because what you’re talking about seems more circumstantial to me,” Stein said, adding that collusion as defined by Waters could mean Russians actively working to get Trump elected.
“I am talking about strategies that were developed working with the Trump campaign. I really do believe that much of what you saw coming out of Trump’s mouth was a play from Putin’s playbook,” she said, explaining her standard for impeachment.
“I think that when you saw him absolutely calling Hillary crooked, the, “lock her up, lock her up” all of that was developed. I think that was developed strategically with people from the Kremlin, with Putin, and I think it’s more than bank records,” Waters added.
Stein’s expression during Waters argument was everything.
“So you think the Russian government developed the talking points for the Trump campaign?” Stein asked, seeming a bit bewildered by her premise. Waters then rambled about Russians drilling in the Arctic and needing Trump to lift sanctions.
“Just to be clear, we haven’t—there’s been no actual evidence yet of collusion,” Stein said.
“No, it has not been,” Waters replied. “And I want you to know, every time I’ve talked about impeachment, I’ve said we’ve got to connect the dots, we’ve got to get the facts, we’ve got to do the investigation. That is what leads to impeachment and I also said that Trump will lead us right there.”
Hard to connect the dots and get the facts without any evidence, but Democrats like Waters would never let that get in the way of their agenda to remove Trump from office.
