President Donald Trump declared that FBI Director James Comey was “very good to” former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, despite the fact that she was “guilty” of every charge.
Trump did not think it was “too late” to ask Comey to step down if needed, as he responded to Fox Business Channel’s Maria Bartiromo’s question on why so many Obama administration people are still employed at the White House.
“I have confidence in him. We’ll see what happens,” Trump said in an interview that aired Tuesday.
“When Jim Comey came out, he saved Hillary Clinton,” he continued.
“People don’t realize that. He saved her life,” Trump said, referring to Comey’s press conference last year in which he revealed he would not pursue charges against Clinton.
“When he was reading those charges, she was guilty of every charge, and then he said she was essentially okay,” Trump said.
“Director Comey was very, very good to Hillary Clinton. That I can tell you,” Trump added. “If he weren’t she would, right now, be going to trial.”
Bartiromo asked the president if he would pursue the charges against his former rival but Trump said he would rather not discuss it.
“I don’t want to talk about that. I want to talk about positive,” he said.
Trump briefly touched on another Obama-era official, former National Security Adviser Susan Rice and her “terrible” actions in unmasking names in his campaign. Bartiromo pointed out that Rice contends her actions were routine and not politically motivated.

“Does anybody really believe that? Nobody believes that,” Trump responded. “What they did is horrible.”
